Royal Brunei delay caused us to miss onward flight

Our flight from Dubai was delayed by just under 3 hours in January 2012 which then subsequently meant that we missed our connecting flight back to Ireland from Heathrow. After having to collect our luggage and a long terminal change we then had to pay over £250 for new tickets. We received no compensation from either party.

The rules suggest it has to be an EU flight, is Royal Brunei a EU owned company? The flight came from Dubai to London.

Royal Brunei is not an EU airline (https://www.bruneiair.com/) and as the flight also originated from outside the EU you have no claim under EU regs

If you were on a single ticket, your booking would have been protected and there should have been no need for you to purchase new tickets, you should have been transferred to the next available flight
If you were traveling on separate tickets then this is the risk you take
