Query re Aer Lingus

Hi All, I'm a newbie to this site with a question about flight delays.
I booked flights with Aer Lingus from Dublin to Orlando in 2010. Flights had an hour stopover in Boston, and then the Boston - Orlando flight was with Jet Blue (codeshare with Aer Lingus). We were delayed for 7 hours in Boston, we weren't offered any refreshments etc while we were waiting. So essentially our delay happened outside the EU, but As our full flights were booked via Aer Lingus would we be entitled to claim?
Thanks for any help with this

The claim is with the actual airline you flew with and only to or from a EU destination.
As this was a US airline between US airports it appears outside the EU legislation0 -
