Air France claimed denied due to extraordinary circumstances?

The flight delay with Air France resulted in a 24 hour delay at my final destination. Air Francce said the delay was due to a passenger not boarding and this passengers luggage had to be removed from the plane. This took 74mins and we missed our connecting flight (also with Air France). Air France told me this is considered "extraordinary circumstances" and denied my claim for compensation. Can you tell me if I can disagree with them? The flight was already late when we boarded so I find their reason inexplicable. Many thanks for any advice.
