Cancelled MyTravel flight Sanford to Glasgow July 2005

Options
I wonder if someone can assist with flight numbers.

My family and I were travelling from Sanford Orlando to Glasgow with MyTravel (now Thomas Cook I think) on 23rd July 2005 , on arrival at the airport for check in we were told the flight was delayed due to the plane being diverted to assist evacuation in Sharm el-Sheikh after the bombing. We were taken to a nearby hotel and stayed overnight and returned to the airport the next day for our flight.

The problem is I have no reference number, flight number or any other details. I've checked on flightstats but the flight is not listed.

Was anyone else on that flight?

Thanks in advance
A

You missed the bit where Martin said 'claiming before 2007 is very tricky'.

Thanks Ich and richardw for taking the time to reply...I don't have any paperwork anyway to prove I was on the flight...just thought it was worth a go, there was 5 of us on that flight.

OP, I think you will find that FlightStats.co.uk DOES give details of your flight. The flight reference you want to check on the date you quoted is VZ 66 which is attributed as being a flight by "Velvet Sky".

The ICOA designation code for MyTravel Airways is MYT, so the flight was probably referred to in all documentation as being MYT 66. However, the IATA designation code for all airlines is actually only 2 digits long, therefore MYT can't be used in the IATA system. As a result the IATA system refers to MyTravel Airways by the IATA code VZ. After the merger of Thomas Cook and MyTravel in 2007, the merged Airlines use the Thomas Cook idnetifier and VZ became available to be allocated to a different airline. I think VZ was subsequently allocated to a short-lived African airline called "Velvet Sky" around 2009, before they went out of business.

I think the FlightStats.co,uk site checks using the IATA code for the flight on the date it took place - if it is different to the ICOA code.

According to Flghtstats.co.uk, Flight VZ 66 (likely to be the same as flight MYT 66) on the date you quote was 1192 minutes late.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all of that, I looked at it again and you are quite correct.

  • I could not find my two Mytravel delayed flights on flightstats.
    MYT 461 dep 24/10/07
    MYT 462 dep 31/10/07
Thanks to Steves tip I can confirm that one was over 5 hours late, the other however still does not seem to exist although a new flight appears to have been scheduled 5 hours after mine should have left very fishy.
Does anyone know how I can find out the reasons for the delays?
    Thanks
