  • All insurers have to give unlimited EU cover at RTA equiv

Almost all insurers allow you to have comprehensive cover in Europe but it varies both on the number of days and if its built in/ free or if you have to pay for it.

    No, the original question

DoC is not compulsory and is increasingly rare for insurers to offer it

interesting......I thought the point of EU directives was to ensure that if a car/driver combo was legal in one EU country then it would be legal in all EU countries.

Whilst, as you say, DOC isn't compulsory I'm thinking that *if* I do have it then the EU directives should mean I have it EU wide

I've seen at least one Insurer (Admiral from memory) who specifically exclude DOC from the EU cover

Direct Line also specifically state that DOC only applies in the British Isles (linky, page 12). I was under the impression that this was fairly standard.

Most Insurers do not specifically state it

It is to ensure certain basic standards. Anything that goes above and beyond those standards are purely discretionary and can have territorial limits.
