OK i got stopped by a sales man on the street in cardiff from phones 4 u saying he could offer me a free contract. I did not believe him and was with some friends, so we decided to go see if it was free and try to find the 'catch' - with no intention of getting a contract... although when we went in after over an 1/2 an hour of asking questions we could not find a catch.
The deal was an 18 month contract £40 per month (1st 6 months 1/2 price) on the network '3'... With cash back for the 1st year and then we were told to come to the shop and they would pay off the remainder of the contract.
So it was in essence free - although one would be out of pocket for 3 months untill the cash back could be claimed for...
A friend and I took up the deal.
The cash back has been fine, i have completed 3 out of the 4 with no problems but now it comes up to the year. A telephone call to them asking about them paying of the remainder contract, but they say its something that they would not have offered! all they could do it offer a new contract - then they would pay off the remainder of the other... This is not what they offered, and it could make this verture cost - when it was promised as free...
Not really sure what to do, the year is up on the 17th of this month, we are planning to go in before then to the shop were we bought it and ask for them to pay off the remainder, if not give them hassle - e.g. stay outside there shop and anyone that comes just say - 'excuse me, please be careful dealing with them - they lied to us' - in the hope they will pay up!
And advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

The guy at phones4u advised you right and by the looks if it there has been a misunderstanding. Phones4u will pay the remaining length off your contract near to upgrade as long as you retake another contract with themselves but do be aware that they will advise you to ring up 3 to lower the tariff down to the lowest one and as i am aware they charge £25 and so will not stump up the rest of the cash. Hope this helps. If you have any more queries just reply back. I may be only 17 but i have extensive knowledge of the mobile phone market.

The most cashback they can do is £100 based on what margin is on the contract - the lowest line rental on 3g is £25 per month. So the best they can do you is 4months off the remaining 6.
It's a very popular line to use amongst sales people as most aren't around in a years time and only want their commission today.
