Roof issues not picked up on survey

We brought our house nearly 6 years ago and about 3 years ago we were told that we needed a big repair to the roof.
We were told that it is missing a row of tiles!
When we got the house, we had an external survey done.
Does anyone think that we have grounds to complain to the mortgage company or are we not entitled
Thanks

If all you had was a survey for valuation purposes then you don't have a leg to stand on. If you paid for a structural survey the situation may be different. In any case it would be the surveyor not the mortgage company that you would have issue with. If you think about it the mortgage company only wants structurally sound investments in case they have to take steps to reclaim their money.Life is like a box of chocolates - drop it and the soft centres splash everywhere0

So three years after you bought the house you were told major repairs were required and 3 years later (thats how it reads) you've done nothing about it?
What do you think the answer is going to be?
Cheers

really? where did you bring it from?! :jmarkstev27 wrote: »We brought our house
there are two questions here - if it had been three years from the purchase and the tiles have always been missing, does that mean you never saw the outside of the roof on your house for three years?
Why has it taken you three years from the repair to think you might be able to get something back from a surveyor for a survey undertaken six years ago? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No you weren't. You have got perfectly valid opinions. Sorry if those opinions didn't give you the answer you wanted to hear.markstev27 wrote: »I was wrong!

ok, well in your opinion why do you think the surveyor was at fault and responsible for the damage to your roof?
can you prove the tiles were missing at the time of survey (given it was six years ago) or could it be that the damage occured in the three years before the repair - also why would you complain to the mortgage company, what responsibilty have they got for repairs to your property? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I think you thought the aim was to agree with your opinions. We don't!
Even if you had a full structural survey, I doubt you'd have a leg to stand on either. Not least because of knowing for 3 years and doing nothing. Oh, and because of the water entry that would have occurred during the last six years would have damaged the property quite seriously by now.0 -
