lets try & get this a bit clearer, by valve you mean what ? inside the boiler or in your airing cupboard ? which "needle" didn't move ? what is the make & model of your boiler ?
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Fan -downstairs kitchen cupboard (inside boiler)
Valve - upstairs airing cupboard attached to water tank (needle didnt move, so no heat or hot water).

Boiler Glow Worm @ about 8 years old now.

    Why is that?

(issues resolved).;) hubby checked email before leaving for work this evening and all sorted. They apologised for the inconvenience and said that we should have been informed of the delay as they could see on notes we were informed it being urgent and part was on order for the following day and to do the job on the valve.
    So happy with that.

I think mine must have been the older style, I know it's called something like a mid-position valve, and it's as you said different colour (Silver and the needle that moves back and forth (depending if you want hot water or heating) was also like a silverish in colour, if you want heating on the same time as hot water it goes to the middle (i think).
(So the needle which was quite long, stuck out a little bit) you could literally hear it clicking across when on.

nearly every mid pos valve is in stock at nearly every merchants in the country, if it's silver in colour & looks like this then it's a honeywell valve (the most popular valve in the country), then these are availible at any plumbers merchant off the shelf they wouldn't have to order anything.

So the lesson is to cancel your 'national' insurance cover and take out the same with a reliable local independent RGI who has a reputation to protect.

Email received from them..........(They say the valve was ordered on the 15th so the same day as the fan was fitted, yet this was reported on the phone as stated in above post.
They also state on email that it was not available on next day delivery???

    Dear

First of all i would like to apologise for the delay in response. I am sorry to hear that the service you have recently received has not been to our usual high standards. We provide ourselves on the level of service we provide and I agree that in this case, your account could have been handled more effectively.

I have looked into the parts situation, I see that the Fan was fitted 15/03/13 and the Mid Position Valve was ordered on the 15/03/13, but this part was not available through next day delivery and had to be ordered into branch which means it comes from the distributor, the part was not available locally, this is what has caused the delay, but this should of been communicated to you.

Please be assured that I have identified feedback from this matter and this will be addressed with the department concerned.

I understand the inconvenience we have caused, as a result of this matter, I would be happy to issue a refund of 1 months cover, to your bank account, this is a gesture of goodwill and this will be paid within 14 working days.

I trust my actions have gone some way to restoring your faith in Swalec Home Services, and would ask that you please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

    Yours Sincerely

that is complete crap & I think a very strong word is needed by yourself or your OH, like I said you can buy a honeywell valve off the shelf at ANY plumbing merchant in the country, screwfix sell them, toolstation sell them, !!!!!! you can even buy them in B&Q, there is no way they have had to order one.

Thank you for your input and I was telling my hubby when he came in from work tonight, he said about putting a letter together about this. As we have no immersion either it was not easy.

    Again cheers.;)
