Don't you wash your hands after going to the toilet or before preparing food?

How do you prevent your water pipes from freezing or black mould from developing?

    Eurgh!

Perhaps you could try being a little more empathetic to those of us in fuel poverty?

Many flats stay well above freezing simply due to the benefit of the neighbours, mine doesn't even go below 10C on a snowy day with the window open. Also oftentimes the kitchen and bathroom pipes are all internal to the building not close to outside walls so no risk of freezing.

Heating alone doesn't prevent condensation damp or mould, I have far less mould in my flat than any other I have been to in this block (it's an issue here due to the windows) and I use barely any heating. I specifically work to produce less water vapour and open my windows daily year round.

You don't have to wash your hands in hot water to be hygienic, the surfactant and massage are they key aspects. You couldn't tolerate hot enough water to kill most microorganisms! If I run out of hot water for the kitchen I boil a kettle, it's called being MSE and living within your means.

    That makes no sense whatsoever.

To claim to be in financial difficulty and thenm opt to use an energy source that is probably about 4x as expensive as the alternative is perhaps the most ridiculous post I've ever come across oin MSE.

What do you mean you don't use hot water or heating?

using something 4x more expensive? really so how come our gas cost us 150 a quarter which is 50 quid a month for only having the hot water on low for 30 mins a day and yet our electric only costs 40 quid a month

we wash hands in cold water, theres no harm in it it wont hurt you

as for the mould we have a de-humidifier and a air purifier which has ultra violet lamps for killing mould, bacteria and viruses

    thank you

in our flat its 18c (64.6f)

even in that 2010 freezing winter when temps outside were -10c it was no lower than 70f in here with the windows shut, the neighbours below must have had heating on lol they probably cant afford it now lol

We have ground source heating which heats the water. the only time we use gas is to cook which costs a maximum of £50 a year. so to be asked to pay almost £200 pound a year for something we don't use is crazy.

His point was that electricity is 3 times more expensive per kWh.

Not for those affected by standing charges who have a low consumption - electricity down to 15p per kWh from 20p per kWh but gas up to 19p per kWh from 7p per kWh.

For customers only using hot water, cooking and lights etc the change is horrible (yes, those here are using heating - but for cases with no heating it is absurd.)

Under the market reform OGFEM is pushing all suppliers to simplify tariffs which includes removing tier 1 & 2 and replacing it will a standing charge. They will also have to reduce the number of tariffs they offer.

Where on earth did you buy your gas from that cost 7p per kWh, let alone now costs 19p per kWh?

Presumably you didn't use a comparison site to find the lowest price deal for you ...

I switch off the gas in the summer, use a full kettle to make a pot of tea in the morning and the rest is for personal wash/shave.
Ditto in the afternoon and to do the washing up. Washing machine is cold fill and the shower is electric.
Wash hands in cold water with soap plus finish off with one of those alcohol type thingies. Lots of people can do this. Save money save the planet. MSE

7p is a perfectly normal price for tier 1 gas. If this two-tier is replaced with a standing charge of £160 then you pay 17p to 21p per kWh.

I know how to compare costs - the cheaper tariffs are being withdrawn.
