heres the thing though we dont use any gas so as you can imagine we are miffed at having to pay for something we dont use
what can we do?

I use Ebico where there are no standing charges or tiers on gas (and elec) I just hope they don't introduce those!0 -
Can you get the gas supply capped off?
(Or search comparison sites for no standing charges)0 -
Why aren't you using the gas?
Heating, hot water and cooking are all much cheaper with gas cf electricity.
Yes, Ebico is cheaper if you are a low gas user and if you use zero gas, then Ebico charges you zero £
But Ebico is very expensive for average users because no standing charge means they charge much higher rates for the actual usage.
Wouldn't you be better off using the cheapest fuel for the purpose and then find the best deal for your usage.
You need to switch every year to keep the bills down.0 -
i love cats, brilliant pics as usual
have never heard of that company, will have a look at them now, thanks
Herongull, we dont use gas as we cant afford a electric and gas bill, we dont use hot water or heating and our cooker is electric as is our shower and everything else in the flat0 -
Hi tink, I hope your good x
Can you do a search on compare sites to find companies that don't have standing charge?Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
ive heard that all companies will be going to a standing charge in the next 12-18 months, is this true?0

The standing charge model is being pushed by regulator Ofgem but npower will be one of the first to introduce it.
In future, all standard bills will have a fixed charge – around £156 a year for gas and £36 a year for electricity – to cover things like distribution costs, billing and metering.

Use a comparison site to find the best deal for you.
It doesn't matter how they charge, but what the lowest overall cost is0 -

That makes no sense whatsoever.
To claim to be in financial difficulty and thenm opt to use an energy source that is probably about 4x as expensive as the alternative is perhaps the most ridiculous post I've ever come across oin MSE.
What do you mean you don't use hot water or heating?
Don't you wash your hands after going to the toilet or before preparing food?
How do you prevent your water pipes from freezing or black mould from developing?
Eurgh! :eek:0 -
We have ground source heating which heats the water. the only time we use gas is to cook which costs a maximum of £50 a year. so to be asked to pay almost £200 pound a year for something we don't use is crazy.0
