experience of hermes and cost cutting delivery

I am baffled why people always go cheap on sending items.

My latest delivery is by hermes, they advertise supercheap delivery surprise surprise and obviously means a disaster.

Here is todays tracking.

27/03/2013 08:45 Not Received by Courier 27/03/2013 05:41 Out For Delivery
So it got picked up for delivery but then the person picking it up not recieved it?

I would say always use parcelforce although even parcelforce were slow for me the other week as well. the only reliable delivery service seems to be special delivery but noone uses it anymore.

Now bear in mind I dont necessarily want things next day, but ideally I want to know when my delivery time is within half a day and for 100% success rate within that window. So now I have to sit here all day tommorow and hope for the best, and am I right hermes do not allow people expecting deliveries to ring them?

Looking at the prices for some of my items I can offer £3.90 My Hermes or slightly over £9 for tracked Royal Mail.

I guess I know which one people will choose.

parcel force would be excessive in cost for my weight of goods.

Give it until tomorrow to update, the tracking is just a system if you really want to know where your item is then give them a call. All tracking systems are rubbish and it will sort itself out tomorrow ect. Look at royal mails tracking which just says processing most of the time and never updates.
I assume your item isn't late?
In which case why complain now, wait for it to turn up, check the tracking later. It gets updates regualry so see what the next update says.
Unless they loose your parcel i don't see the complaint-doesn't matter how much you pay all couriers have their faults and for what they charge i'm sticking with hermes. Have been using them for years for my business with NO missing parcels and the rare non collection is the only bother i've had.

where do I call tho? the website says people like me cant call, only senders can.

also royal mail's tracking does update, I assume you are a seller lindseykim? as you seem to think its ok to "just wait".

As I said whats most important is knowing ahead what day (and ideally what part of he day its going to arrive) people dont want to sit in day after day "just waiting" for it to "correct itself".

I personally send everything special delivery on ebay even if buyer only pays for recorded.

My item isnt late no, so at this point I have no real issue with the sender, sadly there was no premium delivery option.

That will be because Hermes employ self employed drivers, their depot will have a van that drops the parcels off at the delivery drivers home. So Hermes out the parcel on their van and for whatever reason the delivery driver could no accept the parcel.

They have 3-5 days to deliver I believe, and patience is a virtue. If you pay less you get a slower service.

As a sender I have only ever had one issue where the driver didn't collect on the day he said he would so I upgraded to another company for next day delivery for free to be collected the next day. Deliveries have never been lost and get there within a week so I can't complain. Deliveries have always been fine too, but thats because I used to order alot during the sales at Next so you tend to get to know your driver.

Did you pay for named day delivery? or next day delivery, then I could understand why you are upset?

ok so you saying the reason is the delivery driver rejected the parcel?

meaning I potentially now hoave to wait for it to be sent back to the sender?

Also although it says 8.45am the tracking didnt update until gone 6pm.

By the way a week is an eternity for a delivery from uk to uk ;)

No, I am saying that for whatever reason it could not be delivered to the delivery driver, maybe he was ill, like most people perhaps likely to be the latest bug doing the rounds of the school playground.

I think your post is more a vent rather than needing advice, the person you bought from would have stated that delivery can take 3-5 days if you weren't happy you should have contacted them and requested signed next day before 9am via the trusted post office and paid the extra.

I'm just saying, have a little patience, let them do their job and if they don't deliver in the correct time vent at the seller who will most likely refund the delivery costs.

Why don't you contact the sender then?

Senders use cheap, because if they don't, MSE'ers mark down their stars for postage cost and get them thrown off

    Oh yes.

I have to gamble on either getting terrible stars for my postage cost if I only offer Royal Mail , or low stars for despatch if i use MyHermes.

Whatever I do I already imagine I am going to get marked down eventually.

However, this morning for the first time in months I am showing 5* for p and P on my main dashboard. Obviously it won't last the day- but I am very surprised to see it there.

instead of marking down for delivery time?

I hate that new star system on ebay, they should just keep poisitive and negative feedback only.

I am contacting seller today as looks like hermes have messed this up completely now, today its not even out for delivery, I see now why the seller put estimated delivery time at 3 weeks.

Incidently today is already the 7th day, if it came yesterday it would have been delivered on the 6th day. So we already above hermes estimated 3-5 days policy.

My time is valuable, and if you guys are ebay sellers you should strive for perfection not thinking if someone is unhappy about sitting in for days on end waiting for deliveries that are late is somehow acceptable. (Then you wonder yourself why you get poor ratings on ebay).

In all honesty if the driver is ill, I expect a replacement driver, do you think royal mail stop deliveries if the normal guy is ill?
