SnowTiger - You seem to like doing this for some reason....[/QUOTE]

I think it's likely you simply made a mistake. That your figures differ in your two posts just goes to show how easily that's done.

But if you believe your bank have done something underhand you should complain.

Perhaps better to spend some time checking your statements more regularly. As mistakes do happen. Keying of figures being one of the easiest to make.
  • Have you ever thought that you simply made a mistake?
By that I mean in reading the online screen balance.

Why do I say this? If an error had occurred then the original amount would have been corrected out and another entry for the correct sum in ie 3 transactions.
Does your online statement show this?

Nope. They wouldnt have let me BACS transfer out if the funds had not been there.

The method you mention I would have also thought was correct. But, no, they have admitted they went back in and manually edited the previous entry.

I hope my posts haven't come across that way. I wasn't trying to be unhelpful/judgemental, I just feel that it is the account holder's responsibility to keep track of what goes in and out of their accounts (or they should hire an accountant to whom they can delegate that task), but somebody has to keep track of the accounts!

    Cheers

True enough. But my accountant is not going to check every entry that comes into my bank account - believe me!

A lot of people I know dont check at all. I do. I'm not bothered that the bank made a mistake - if they had phoned me to sort it out then no problem at all.

Its just not on to retrospectively edit an entry and keep quiet about it.

No. I just used xx in my first post.

Bank have admitted they keyed the wrong figure now. And then went back a week or so later and amended it.

My issues is they should have told me what they did. And surely there should be an entry to show the amendment.

And yes I'm going to complain....
