Barclaycard Application/Soft Search

I don't understand why these soft searches sometimes indicate acceptance for applicants who are then declined on a full application. They search your file and you provide employment and salary info for both so what extra factors come into play for the 'proper' decision?0

The "Soft Search" calculator is a product developed and provided by HD Solutions - Barclaycard themselves don't do the actual credit scoring in the pre app checker, this third party do.
I guess Barclaycard haven't shared their full credit scoring model with HD Solutions; or one lags behind the other when Barclaycard change their criteria.
Also the pre-app checker only credit-scores, it doesn't "eligibility score", so it won't take into account if you already have a similar product, whether you've recently closed a Barcaycard or been declined for one, whether you don't meet minimum income criteria, etc.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Hi All,
I've got a balance on a Lloyds card I'm trying to whittle down and with this in mind wanted to do a 0% BT to the Barclaycard Platinum with it being such a long deal. On the pre-app checker, it came back that they couldn't find my details - I live in a flat and it comes up as a slightly different address depending on who you ask (I put the details as the property was sold to me and what I know is on the electoral register). I'd already done the MSE version of the eligibility checker and this came back with most cards 90% chance of approval - bit confused as I thought both checkers were supported by the same company?
Anyway I went ahead and did the full application (Experian reports all seems to be in order and no late payments etc and plenty of credit available, decent salary etc) and it said they needed to check details and if they wanted to know any more from me they'd be in touch in 5 days - does this mean its going to underwriters or is it possibly just down to the oddities of my postal address? Nothing flagged up on Experian yet but this was only a couple of nights ago so maybe I'm a little impatient!!
Any thoughts please?

My first thought, have you checked Equifax? Barclaycard are one of the few who only seem to search Eq rather than Ex.
My OH was referred for a BC in the same way, the card then turned up a few days later with a 5k limit, so not necessarily a lost cause yet.0 -

They search both, probably one for the initial check and then a secondary check if they were happy with the first, this may not be standard...

Thanks very much for the quick responses, really appreciate it. I must admit I didn't realise the info held by Experian could differ to that on Equifax until I started reading up...
I have noticed too now though that Barclays seem to use Equifax rather than Experian or as well as from what's been written on other threads.

Interesting, this wasn't the case historically in many peoples' experience. They've never searched Ex for me, but I took my card out in 2005...0
