Barclaycard Application/Soft Search

Options
I've been online and done a soft search with BC, they offered an 80% chance of acceptance on the BT card, so i completed the app, but instead of an instant decision i got a message saying they needed to check details etc. Does that mean i'll be declined? FWIW i already have a card with them, the 7.9% APR card, but I want to transfer the balance from my Nationwide card.

  • May not mean an instant decline, they may genuinely need to cross check details.
If you haven't heard anything in a day or two, you can ring them up and ask what the status of your application is. They should be able to tell you.

Didn't think you could have two cards with them? Unless one wasn't a Barclaycard "Brand" e.g. fine to have an Orange Barclaycard and a "Barclaycard" Barclaycard...

  • It might well have changed but about 5 years ago, I had 2 different cards with Barclaycard.

I have also read of people having 2 or 3 Barclaycards on here so I am guessing there must be some truth in it still being the case.

    I stand to be corrected...

Don't rely on anything I write as it may be wrong!!!

They changed it and actually recently changed it again. You can now have more than one Barclaycard again.

PLus i think their 'soft search' facility would have possibly flagged me as already having a card with them and come back saying I wasn't eligible. But thats just a guess.

You might not get a big enough credit limit from them though.

I only need £2k. I reduced the limit middle of last year on my other BC to £1500 cos I didn't need the £5K they'd given me.

Hmm. No guarantee though. I decreased my Barclaycard from £5k to £2.5k but 9 months later they wouldn't raise it to £3.5k. All other accounts had stayed the same.

Hello, I have been a reader for a while now, so I thought I join this site as well.

Referring to this thread, I recently applied for the Barclaycard Initial credit card and got declined. Even though I have a current account with Barclays bank coming up to four years now and always in credit. I tried that soft search pre-critiera tool on the bank's website and reckon I had a 80-90% chance of getting it, but obviously its not a true indication that I'll would be accepted.

I have two Barclaycards, one cashback (VISA) and a rewards card (Mastercard). I have always had two since joining Barclaycard over twenty years ago.
