hi
i bought a philips HD tv in December (boxing day) but it has a fault in that when an explosion from games happen the screen will go black and then when the explosion has finished it will come back on, it also does this intermittently when watching TV, anyway i went into Comet today to find out what to do with it, they have booked an engineer to come and look at it on Friday, but was advised that if no fault is found i would be charged for the call out and checking fee
how can they do this? is it not part of my warranty?
also it is an intermittent fault what if it does not do it when the engineer is here?
any advise?
cheers

haha, would like to see comet take u up on that, after 28 they should arrange through manufacture if you persist, but personally id just ring manufacture direct0

What you would do personally is your choice, I was just pointing out the correct legal angle, which is for 12 months not the 28 ( days I presume ) inferred by your post.
Please don't continue to give inaccurate info to others reading this forum, Comet like any retailer has a legal duty to repair/replace a faulty item for 12 months, end of story.0 -
Having worked in retail chain, i was purely pointing out to the original poster, that if they have phoned Comet and not the manufacture, that Comet maybe supplying their own engineers rather than going through the manufacture (hence the charge). Comet, like other retailers will allow 28 days for any faults with the set, after that if you have to go through your manufacture, or you can go through Comet (within 12 months) and they will go through the manufacture for you.0

Not quite what you said earlier...as above !! ..
Anyway it doesn't matter which retailer or manufacturer is concerned, the law is the same, as you state that you have worked for a retail chain, you should know that.0 -
and what does this have to do with the fees that comet might want?
i want advise on this matter NOT who i should have contacted
at the end of the day comet have a legal obligation to sort my problem0 -
The reason for the suggested charge is to try and stop people calling out an engineer when it isn't a fault and just them not setting up the tv correctly or understanding how it works (not that I am suggesting that is what you are doing as it sounds like a genuine fault you have). If you can always demonstrate the fault you are having then I don't see that there would be a problem at all. Or if you can't then perhaps you could try and get the problem on film, then they can see that there is a fault.0

Just tell the engineer that it is very intermittent, but seriously irritating when it does happen. Given that it is within 6 months of purchase its it up to the retailer to proof that there isn't a fault not for you to proof that there is."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

hey we bought a 42" hitachi plasma from comets last year, after 4 months it started flashing and flickering, we called comets who sent out engineers and did a software reset, in total they came out to us four times. My father demanded a replacement but they said they wouldnt give it to us and that it would have to be sent away to be repaired. Before it was sent away i video'd the flashing and flickering on my mobile phone and uploaded it to my computer.
SO the tv was sent away and they said that it wasnt flashing or flickering because they left it on for a week and it never happened! So, armed with my laptop i went to the comet store and played the video on my laptop at the front of the store and demanded to have a replacement, they could see from the video that it was flashing and flickering so on the spot they gave us a brand new replacement and £200 back because it had dropped in price.
so my advice would be to video the tv then they cannot argue with what you have to say, demand a new tv and state that your not happy having a faulty 5 months old tv repaired.0
