Google nexus 7 problems

Options
Here are some problems I've encountered so far:

1) today, earphones plugged in and at max vol barely audible. Common issue and an app needs downloading to boost it. Poor.

2) google play, can't buy anything because as mentioned a few weeks back, they want me to email passport etc. dodgy & unnecessary id check which others have encountered too. Haven't looked into this further, I feel it will be too much hassle. May have to buy £10 play vouchers at a time & see if I can purchase that way. Poor

3) screen clarity & resolution/sharpness. Iplayer and YouTube clips are fuzzy? Not sharp. This is meant to have excellent resolution. I checked the same YouTube clip on my iPhone 4 & it's pinpoint sharp. I can't see streaming media being enjoyable at all. Any comments as to settings adjustments ?

What problems have you had?

Only had this for a couple months and though it's decent for web browsing, media is not enjoyable - picture is not sharp and sound is not crisp at higher volumes. I can accept the sound but not the screen.

I mean, the ice age film that came with it seems excellent quality, but iplayer & YouTube don't appear to be?

Any suggestions welcome

tbh I've never had any issues with the headphone socket, apart from some connectors i have are a bit fiddly to get in right.
With the security requests, surely it's better to have these checks than let someone else run up a massive bill on your account and leave you with it?!
with youtube etc, if you watch those videos on a bigger screen with a higher resolution you'll see the lack of quality - try watching a youtube video on a 42" hd tv!
You can only get out what you put in - i.e. put in high quality media, get high quality playback

Headphone output volume on the Nexus 7 is loud..

If your particular headphones are the problem consider an app where you can adjust the preamp.

r-sole: so did you have to go through the google checks? no? that's unfair. Most don't, but some do. Why? Do BUY an app? Never had to go through checks with itunes...AND faxing/emailing sensitive identity documents, such as PASSPORT? They don't even HAVE my bank details, so why on EARTH are they worried about bank security?

Sorry mate, ain't buying that AT ALL.

    Re; earphones...I'm not alone:

If yours are working loudly, then I guess mine is faulty and I'll take it back. I'm using HIGH QUALITY brand ones too, by KLIPSCH

    1) depends on the sensitivity of your earphones, and also the app you're using, but yes lots of mobile devices are guilty of this to make parts cheaper, save battery life, and pretend they're protecting your (or the CHILD's) ears.
    2) Never heard of this - is this possibly just a random check? Nothing to do with the device though, it's an ecosystem complaint.
    3) The screen is very high resolution and generally regarded as being very good. You mention you're looking at the same clips on a 3.5" device, but you don't mention the quality of the clip. Make sure you're viewing a 720p clip on both devices then tell me the screen isn't clear. a 7" device is designed to be held further away from you than a 3.5" one. Any picture, moving or otherwise, will look worse the bigger it gets. Do you have the YouTube app on the Nexus or are you viewing within a browser? Are both devices connected to the same WiFi network? Please don't tell me one is 3G and one is WiFi?!

Yes, via youtube/iplayer app, and yes both wifi. Strange how the ice age film is crisp, and yet even iplayer isn't

have you tried watching the specific clips on a computer and/or via firefox on the nexus just for comparison?
youtube is usually pretty gash on every andriod app I've used but seems better in the browser (maybe it's just me tho)
but iplayer is good on my nexus

edit: also haven't had to do the security checks for google, probably because i've had an account with them for many years, but I've regularly been asked for copies of id for opening accounts at places that I have no prior history with

Klipsch aren't really high quality, unless you have the x10i - which are plenty loud on the N7. Like Shure and Sennheiser they make any number of budget phones. I have to wonder about that thread...it's like me blaming my TV for the quality of my soundbar.

This is the volume level I use with my own Klipsch and other iems:

I know that iPlayer on my computer always starts rubbish then adjusts - it adjusts to the speed of your connection on the fly, and seems to start off rubbish. Maybe the Android app does the same but the iPhone one doesn't?
Anyway, we've established that it's not the screen that's at fault.
