Best PDA / diary?

Options
Hi all,

I have looked at Palm Tungsten E2 and Palm TX (which has wi-fi) - any suggestions on which would be best?

Also if you have any ideas for other PDAS do let me know, I need it mostly for diary and contact management. :T

I've got an HP Ipaq 2100 which is obsolete now, but I've always found it to be reliable, good battery life, got it from Ebay Christmas before last (well OH did!) He's the tecchie in the family and thought I needed one to manage my work appointments and contacts - and he was right! Can't do without it now, and he's even put Tom Tom software on it too which makes it even more useful.
So perhaps HP might be worth adding to your list? ;)

Seconded for the Ipaqs - I had an Ipaq 2210 (which I'm selling on ebay right now actually) and it's been excellent for e-mail, diary, etc.

A more compact solution might be a Windows mobile smartphone - we use the Orange SPV E650 at work and theyre absolutely fantastic.

Thanks guys - will investigate! The key is for it to be small, diary and contacts instantly accessible. Oh, and less than £120!

I use a orange Smartphone, Syncs with my Outlook on the PC, for all contacts diary entries etc. Cheap to boot.

I wasn't too keen on the HP that I bought because it lost all of it's program installs when it ran out of battery power. Maybe newer models store in a different way though. SO you needed to keep it charging all the time without forgetting.

If you went on holiday for instance, when you got back and charged your iPaq, it went back to original state because it doesn't have long term memory.

I was considering the Palm Tungsten E2, or the Palm TX - any thoughts on those? I will not be using it as much as others would, like for presentations or Word etc - just diary, contacts, maybe the odd spreadsheet.

I'm a huge fan of windows mobile devices, mainly for their ease of use, large amounts of software available for them, and their compatibility with desktop windows apps.

I can write a word doc or excel sheet on the pc copy it to my PDA and open it no problem or do it the other way round. I have wifi, bluetooth built in.

The latest versions of windows mobile doesnt loose everything when the battery dies. It is a while since I used any of the palm devices and I dont think I could go back to them. maybe you should consider one of the mobile phone based devices, they allow the use of the internet everywhere you can get a phone signal and some of them are very compact so your not lugging around anything much bigger than a mobile phone. I used to find I would leave the PDA at home or in the car due to its size os it wasnt used as much sa it should have been. The last 3 I have had have all been phones so I had to take them and I use it fully pretty much for everything I need to make notes about or remember.

This is the problem with the Windows Mobile 2003. Windows Mobile 2005 does not have this problem as all the programs and settings are saved in non-volatile memory. So check which operation system you get (Should only matter if you get an old or second hand PDA)

Possibly more than you're after, but since christmas I've had a T-Mobile MDA Vario II (actually a HTC TyTN - I think you can get it through other networks branded as various things too) PDA/phone. It's fantastic - Windows Mobile PDA, phone, camera (although it's not the best) and I got the CoPilot Sat nav software with it too.

With T-Mobile web&walk I can access the internet and email anywhere for a flat monthly rate. It's unbelievable how much more useful this makes the PDA - can download email, upload attachments, sync with my Google calendar (using OggSync) and Thunderbird contacts (using FinchSync) and more.

The slide-out keyboard on the Vario II/TyTN is brilliant too.

Only downside is the cost I guess (depends on your phone contract) and the battery life is a bit poorer than non-PDA phones. Also it's a bit bulkier than your average phone (but not compared to the average PDA).
