BT £40 to downgrade broadband package!

Just received an email from BT as our broadband contract is up for renewal next month.
We were contemplating moving from option 3 to option 2 or 1 but they stated that to move to a lower option they would charge £40!!
I am not happy - cant believe they would do that, surely they want to keep their customers!!

Our 12 month contract finished last month(option 4 at £29.99) and i was contemplating switching to another ISP purely on cost grounds.
Out of the blue came a letter from BT thanking me for my custom and my broadband cost would be reduced to £24.99 from 1st May and my download limit will become unlimited.
Not sure if it will keep me with them but it's a start.
In your case try hanging on for a few weeks and see what happens.0 -
I bet unlimited does not mean unlimited.
It could mean read the FUP or T&C.0 -
Thanks for that. We are at present on Option 3 but dont need unlimited downloads any more as the kids have left home!! So we were thinking of option 1 or 2 but to simply do this swop when our contract is up for renewal shouldnt cost us the sum of £40 should it?0

I think you have misunderstood. It costs £40 to downgrade while in term. Once your contract is up ring them and ask what deals you can get.....there are a few.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

Hi Drunkstar
can I just ask as you work for BT  ....I have just phoned and renewed my broadband contract tonight - new one will start from 22nd apparently. They have given me the 6 months half price on the basic broadband. Firstly, if I want to change my mind and cancel the renewal of the contract can I? Secondly is there a better deal?
Thanks a lot - much appreciated!0 -
Thanks for that Drinkstar - just shows that i need to read these emails carefully!
They are offering a free hub if/when i renew my contract ( supposedly staying on option 3) Are they any good? The free router we got last year wasnt!0 -

You can cancel up until the 22nd itself.6 months half price? I didnt think we had that as an offer.......we have 6 months free if you take it for 18 months, but thats a last ditch one. More often its 12months with a £4pcm discount.
wilroda, get to the COt team (0800800880 option 2) and say you are considering leaving. They will give you the free router as well as a discount of about a fiver for 12 months. Also you can get the Bt Vision for free if youre in a freeview area. Thats a nice little bonus really. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20
