Sent a corner unit from Yorkshire to Bristol via UPS at a cost of £48
Item arrived at Bristol damaged and so was returned to me. I only knew this when the guy turned up at my door with it. now in 2 packages despite it being just one previously.
I asked about insurance and the driver told me it had been incorrectly packaged, I took a look at the package and the origanl packaging was still on with fragile stickers all over it. Written in the special instructions was fragile and I explained the package was more than well packaged. If it wasn't then why would the original driver have picked it up, and had my item been secured in transit it would not have broken.
The driver told me that UPS would come out and pick it back up and the look at it, I suggested he save them the hassle and return it to the depot to speed things up a little, to which he agreed would probably be the best thing.
I called UPS last night to find out what was going on and they had recorded the package as 'abandoned' saying that I refused delivery meaning there was now nothing I could do.
I checked my bank a little later and two payments to UPS had come out, one for £52 and one for £58. Back on the phone it was explained to me that the £52 charge was the original delivery cost and £58 was the cost to return it to me.
So now I am left with a damaged item, £100 out of pocket and no way to claim insurance.
If Jeremy Beadle was still alive I would genuinely have expected him to have bust through my door at any minute.
Unbelievable.
Has anyone had any experience with getting money back off these cowboys?

That is absolutley disgusting what UPS have done, I would be fuming.
You should keep on at them every day with phone calls, emails and letters until they give you your money back.
They should also compensate you for the damage caused.
UPS you are a disgrace you should hold your head in shame.0 -

I thought the same
Natwest have filed a retailer dispute and so hopefully I'll get the payments from my account back.
I have been back on the phone with them this morning asking to come and view the item myself but it has been discarded and they claim there is no appeals process when it comes to claims.
The item I sent was only worth about £200 and I was giving it to a family member, but the point is UPS have essentially collected the item, broken it, thrown it away, charged me twice and then told me unlucky.

Please update on what happens0

Won't be packed sufficiently then I am afraid. The charge back isn't likely to go through either - as they will be covered by the T&C's on sufficient packaging.0

Are you a lawyer for a delivery service?
I'm surprised that anyone could make such a dogmatic statement without examining the item and packaging. The charge back isn't likely to go through either - as they will be covered by the T&C's on sufficient packaging.
That would be for a court to decide. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

How can it be in the original packaging yet in two packages? Sorry but I don't think you packaged according to UPS guidelines, for example
"Step 2. Provide Internal Protection
It is important to cushion the contents of your package properly.
Please be sure that you wrap each item separately. Fragile articles need separation from each other, and from the corners, sides, top, and bottom of the box.
Each item should be surrounded by at least two inches (5.08 cm) of cushioning and be placed at least two inches (5.08 cm) away from the walls of the box. This prevents product-against-product damage and protects contents from shock and vibration, which can pass from the outside of the box to the contents.
Please use proper cushioning material, combined with a strong outer container, to protect your shipment fully. Make sure you use enough cushioning material to ensure that the contents do not move when you shake the container.
Improper cushioning material includes clothing, blankets, towels, newspaper/newsprint, and pillows. Instead, please use the materials listed below to cushion and protect your shipment:
Air-encapsulated plastic (small and large cell bubble sheeting)
Designed to protect and cushion lightweight items
Used in multiple wraps and layers to ensure that the item is completely protected, especially on corners and edges ...
Note: Fragile objects such as electronics, glass, ceramics, and artwork, require special packaging for safe shipment. Packages containing these and similar items may require added cushioning or a double (over) box."

"Step 1. Use a Corrugated Box
Whenever possible, use a new box. The more times a box is used, the more it loses its original protective qualities, so a previously used box may not adequately protect your shipment.
If you must reuse a box, make sure it is rigid and in excellent condition with no punctures, tears, rips, or corner damage, and that all flaps are intact. Remove any labels and all other shipment markings from the box.
Choose a box strength that is suitable for the contents you are shipping. Weight limits printed on the Box Maker's Certificate (found on the bottom flap of most boxes) are intended for palletised freight shipments, not for shipments through small parcel carrier environments. Following the UPS Box Strength Guidelines will help ensure your package is of adequate strength to provide sufficient protection.
Engineers at the UPS Package Design and Test Lab have developed specifications for box strength after years of testing and analysis. Refer to the chart below to aid you in determining the proper size and maximum gross weight limit of a box."
