The machines in banks will only work for you if you have an account with that bank for the money to be credited to.

Asda and Morrisons (and the other supermarkets) do not operate the machines in their stores. They belong to a firm trading as CoinStar and it is they who cream the 8% or so to cover the cost of the machine and its upkeep.

I took £135, out of my old Bertie Bassett money box, to one recently and got charged a whacking £10 or so for the service which wrankled with me at the time, even though I knew the charge before I used it.

Afterwards, I thought about how long it would have taken me to count it, bag it and recheck it and then try to persuade a bank teller to accept it and realised that maybe it wasn't so bad.

Anyone else still got a Bertie Basset money box? It's like a 10 inch high statue of Bertie with a slot in his hat to put the money in. I've put hundreds through him over the years!

They'd probably be grateful of you going, if you did raise the 2 finger salute then they would close your account down anyway, nobody should have to tolerate any form of agressive or insulting behaviour. I suppose if raising 2 fingers is your natural response it doesn't say much for you as a person.
Any business out there has the right to accept/refuse, it's their own policy, you don't like it, tough, move on.

Don't be ridiculous, it was a comment- not a statement of intent.
Of course I agree that no one should tolerate rudeness, although in some jobs it is par for the course I'd also note.

I still maintain, whether the banks care or not they do not deserve my business if they do not act in a reasonable manner.
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

my local natwest has a free machine that you just throw them all in and it gets added to your account.

mine has one, but it has a note on it stating 'this is not a coinstar machine - if you have large amounts of change, please go to asda or sainsburys', so i closed mine and my brother's account (who opened it purely to use said coin machine (he was 12 at the time and has special needs, so it's convenient for him to go in once a month and empty his money box into the machine).

they now won't let you put in more than a few quid in change, which kind of makes a coin counting machine redundant

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
