Upgrades and sim cards

Irrespective of the agreement, there are too many handsets out there for them to work out whether the existing customer SIM will be compatible - as networks routinely upgrade SIMs an 'old SIM" may not provide the correct HLR access, size, or voltage. As the cost s minimal, it makes sense for the customer to have the latest SIM profile, than find out there are issues later.
Ah right, thanks for this. Didn't realise Orange worked this way.0 -
It's not going well! I put the new SIM in the new phone, activated it, got an on-screen message with my new phone number and saying that I should get a text shortly with the number. After that, nothing and the phone is not connected to the network so I can't make or receive calls.
I tried phoning Orange customer services, but communication over a bad phone line to India wasn't 100%. He told me that I had no credit on the account, so I said I thought there should be £10, so he said he'd tell the billing people and I should get a text. Again, nothing.
I'm starting to wonder now if they actually credited the £10 to my original number, but I can't find anything in My Account to tell me when credit has been added to a phone. So I tried to add the new phone to the My Account page - it said it has sent a text with a security code to my phone - still nothing.
Is there anything more I can do???
(There is no problem with Orange phone reception at this house, we've got three other handsets which work perfectly.)0 -
Also ... I was just looking through the box and noticed a little piece of paper saying 'how to take care of your T-Mobile phone'. I'm starting to wonder if Orange might have sent me a phone which is locked to T-Mobile and that is why they can't activate it. Is that even a possibility??0

I have FINALLY got my phone working.
They sent out the phone with a SIM card and when I activated the SIM it set up a new PAYG account and my old PAYG account remained active. When I spoke to Orange customer services to say that I couldn't make or receive calls, they credited the new PAYG account with £10 but I still couldn't connect to the network.
After messing around all weekend with nothing working I phoned to return the phone. I spoke to the company that deals with returns, and the guy I spoke to realised straightaway that the problem was that the phone had been sent out with a security block on it, which he lifted and the phone magically started working instantly.
So I got there in the end, but another time I won't try to order an upgrade if I'm not going to use it for my own account, it really wasn't worth the hassle.0
