changing bank account

Options
Hi guys,

Not so sure if this is the right place but couldn't find a generic banking section.

Basically, just moved to santanders 123 account for my CC and current account. I want to close my HSBC account down but i'm worried that if a payment tries to go through and fails it will hit my credit rating. I've switched all my direct debits to santander and none are showing online in my hsbc account. Any ideas how i'd go about doing this?

Also, i've never claimed for PPI and i've got no idea if I could or not. I've never had loans but have had credit cards from Barclays and now Santander. Is it likely they would've built something into the interest rate? I also had an overdraft with HSBC for a while (my partner has had a hsbc credit card for several years as well).

Bit confused over it.

Cheers

PPI on credit card would always show as a separate monthly transaction such as payment protection.
If you have never had it there is nothing to claim.

Leave enough in the old account untill you know payments have been taken from the new account.

SOme DD can request payment upto 10 prior to payment due. So it can be that requests are already in process when they are transfered.

    Thanks,

Im sure everything has been taken and there are no direct debits on the accounts. These were all removed 1 month ago. My only worry is things paid annually like car insurance (i cancel this every year to get the best deal but just for an example), what would they do if they tried to charge my account and found it was closed? Would the put a mark on my credit file?

Well if you have cancelled any DD's and you change the ins co yearly.

So long as you cancel with the ins co before the due date then you have nothing to worry about.

Always advised to do this anyway. As many now will auto renew via the card details if you do not contact and cancel.

When I recently moved from Santander to Co-op smile I moved the direct debits the day after they were paid. Or actually in practice contacted the payee - BT, Affinity Water, etc. - with new bank details. Quite frankly if it takes them over a month to move the direct debit and claim payment it's most definitely their fault and not mine and I'll shout my head off all the way to the Financial Ombudsman if I have problems.
