Store cupboard app?

Hi

Apologies if this has been asked before but I wondered if anyone has found an app to use on their smart phone to monitor their store cupboard? Or has anyone come up with an ingenious way to do this using a non specific app?

I'm spending an horrendous amount on shopping at the moment so want to
1. Monitor my grocery spending
2. Monitor what's in my store cupboard

Any helpful hints that a tech savvy saver could use? :p

I'd have a bash at developing an app but somehow I can't see you guys spending a fortune on it and making me a millionaire :rotfl:

If you google "barcode reader app" there's half a dozen, and I think at least some of them will then let you transfer the information to your computer. You just scan the barcode of everything you're storing, and hey presto, a list! Then every time you use something, you have to remember to delete it...

Will I get flamed if I say I use a pen and paper to make a list of what is in our kitchen cupboards so that I know what is there.

Then a piece of paper held on the fridge with a magnet and write what I need as I use something up.

This is Old Style and money saving savvy as well.

I've got an app for that - it's called my brain.

I've not ever seen an app ... so no idea what they do/how they work etc .... but I do know my brain remembers if I need something. It's not rocket science... what next, an app to let you know when you need to go to the loo?

The secret isn't knowing how to make an app. It's quite easy and there are free tools to help you. The secret isn't being able to take it to the next level - of course some people are able to programme it to a usable/useful level.

I think what the lad had was: contacts.... people his parents knew, that knew about funding and stuff.... and got investors involved... etc etc.

It's not just what you know, it's who you know.

    :)

I just looked it up "his father working as a commodities trader/energy financier in the City, and his mother as a lawyer,".... so, wealthy people, that knew wealthy people and know how money gets lent and stuff :)

I realise this was not your ? but a very efficient way to save money and waste is to do a weekly menu and then print it out and then with a fridge magnet put it on your fridge you can then check what you have and what you need to buy and if you can batch cook and freeze what you don't need your food bills will soon be much lower and you will save £££££££££££

I also do not see the need for an App surely you can take a look in your cupboards, make a list of what you have in and cross off things as they get used.

Then it is a case of making a proper shopping list of the things you need to make the following weeks meals.

As others have said it is not rocket science and it really only takes a few minutes I don't see how an App will save you either time or money at the shops.

as this has dropped down the OS board, ive moved it to our Mobile phone board

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
