Diesel spill at petrol garage

Any advice --
At the beginning of the month I was filling up at a shell garage when I was covered in diesel from above the waist down. This was during filling. I found out later the pump I was using is a fast flowing pump for lorries. When I went into the garage to complain to them I was offered nothing to clean myself, not even a tissue. I had to drive back home 40 mins away to shower and throw away all my clothes. I have since complained to shell who have sent a standard letter from their insurance company basically stating they see no issue.
My argument is why was the pump activated? Why was I not offered anything to clean myself up with? Why was the assistant unconcerned about a spillage in the garage?
Do you think this is a issue worth perusing?
Thank you
Sam

because you wanted to put fuel in the car
did you not ask for the toilets
because it was diesel so not an imminent danger of fire

If there was genuinely no information on the pump then I would small claims for the losses you incurred, clothes, cleaning etc.
A letter before actio would probably be enough.
Otherwise it's kind on your own fault. Can you clarify the signage?0 -

The truck pumps tend to be separate from the rest and not under cover as they are at risk of hitting the canopy.
Think about it, when did you last see an arctic filling up at your supermarket?0 -
Just out of curiosity how fast do the truck pumps pump?
Quite tempted to use one next time if there really quick!0 -

Welcome to MSE :hello:samiejoe13 wrote: »I have since complained to shell who have sent a standard letter from their insurance company basically stating they see no issue.
This is what insurance companies do. Even in cases where there is a clear liability they will deny that this is the case to try and avoid paying out.
If you have a legal advice helpline (either through your home or motor insurance) give them a call for advice on this.
Ultimately the small claims court is the way to resolve this sort of issue but before you do that you need to obtain proper advice.0 -

You dont have a red escort van do you? If you do i was the guy in the lorry laughing at you.
Especially as you told me to F.off and mind my own business. When i said you dont want to be using that pump.
More went all over the floor as the pipe didnt fit into the filler neck.
If you squeeze gently though you can still get a very slow flow.
Offered nothing to clean yourself up. Were there not glove and tissue dispensers outside?
Probably health and safty issues. If they hand you a tissue are they liable. But if you take one yourself its your fault?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Oh dear - the lorry pumps are pretty obvious, set away from the main area with more room, plus a sign such as HGV pump attached.....TBH I do sometimes use them if I am filling up my 4x4 if the station is busy and can't be bothered to wait for the handbag sorter outers and the ones buying a week's shopping inside, as long as you squeeze the nozzle gently! I have the old trooper filled up in half the time!!0
