I think for the extra £33 will look at the Malaysia flight, just waiting for his passport to come back, hope the price don't change much.

You don't need a passport to book: just be sure that you know exactly how his name will be shown and spelled.

He's hoping to go on 9th April so don't want to book if passport is not back in time.

A colleague of mine flew China Southern and said it was the worst airline he had ever flown with- food was poor, aircraft was basic and in flight entertainment was very poor. Travelling for such a long time it is definitely worth spending that bit extra for comfort, go with Malaysian or BA

I've used china southern before, they're about as good as any other airline. They're well worth it in my opinion, considering the prices are often so much lower. Malaysian are a very good airline, but to be honest, I'd probably gauge it more by flight time than anything else. When you've been travelling that long an extra hour can feel like forever. Have you checked Asiana Air, they can often be very reasonable.
