If you do this with a wireless connection, it will drop as soon as you save the wep key, better to wire it up while you are trying to secure it, and (if you have XP with SP2 on all the PC's) also use WPA rather than wep, cos it's more secure.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

best to do it from the Main PC as it's probably connected by cable
when you turn WEP on, this will keep working but the Laptops will ask for the WEP key you are setting up
you will not need to access the admin panel from the laptopsEx forum ambassador

WEP is a tad insecure these days. Your tab may have options for WPA Personal, WPA TKIP, WPA AES, WPA-mixed (TKIP and AES)etc. WPA AES is the most secure but might not be compatible with all you wireless equipment. WPA mixed usually works on mixed networks. Instead of a long hexidecimal string you may have a passphrase to enter (make it long and difficult for someone to guess but something you will remember). This will have to be entered in all your connecting laptops and PCs as well as the encryption method eg. "WPA Personal mixed".
In addition to all this I would recommend changing the name of the router to something other than linksys, and choosing the option to turn off SSID broadcast (after you have managed to connect all you PCs to the new name).
Most importantly change the login details for you router to something different to the default of username: admin, password: admin. There are software bots that trawl for routers that are left in their standard settings. If you have a technical friend close at hand it can be a big help. This process can be very frustrating. Agree with the earlier post about doing all this whilst wired directly to the router.
