Vista Versus Windows???

Sorry if this has appeared elsewhere but trawling thru so many pages takes so much time!
Can anybody tell me whether its still worth buying a Laptop with Windows Home XP on it or should I forget it and get the new Vista option? When will XP become obsolete?
thanks.

There will be 'support' for XP until 2009 and a majority of new hardware is now being supplied with Vista but if the deal is right there's no harm in getting XP.

You can always upgrade to Vista as and when you feel like it.

I have heard of people who are with virgin/ntl having big problems, connecting to the internet with vista.

Is that all, only until 2009? Somebody told me that they would be supporting XP for at least another 5 years, but obviously they were wrong.

I am about to buy son a new laptop with XP home on it, so hopefully it will be alright for quite a few years.

XP Home will be supported 2 years after Vista Release. So your looking at 2009, or just over 1 1/2 years support.

XP Professional because it is a business product will be supported for 5 Years after Vista release.

If you want long term support (which means patches, not support), then get Vista instead. Not many people would go out and buy a new PC with ME/98/2000 on, so why they would choose XP over vista (when the price is the same) is beyond me.
