Adrian Flux does a good few 'specialist' policies for younger drivers / faster cars etc... best giving them a call as I don't think they have much of an online prescence.

As it happens I think a Saxo VTR (1.6i 90bhp) comes in at a group 7 (might be 8) so isn't too outlandish on insurance. You'll probably have a large excess (£750+) whichever company you go with though.

Waiting until after my 18th birthday knocked my quote down by nearly 20% (this was 7 years ago however) so might be worth doing.

Modified cars for 17/18 year olds are definitely something to avoid from an insurance point of view, many will not touch you and if you don't declare any mods to them your insurance isn't worth the paper its written on.

I have just been told by adrianflux that they will not insure my 20 year old son for my car - 25 year olds and upwards only as named drivers.

Great, another insurance quote search to my name......

Adrian Flux insured me on my Mini at age 23 - this is a higher insurance group than a Saxo VTR so must depend on the car involved?

We arnt really calling him a chav, we were just suggesting that by buying a different car the insurance would be cheaper, saving him money and getting some no claims.
I always wanted a BMW E36 since i was 17 but could never afford the insurance so i started off with a pug 106. and 3 years later i have my Bimmer! with cheap insurance!
I was paying £1400 for my 1.4 diesel 106 TPTF at 19,and now at 21 i pay £550 fully comp for a 1.8 BMW e36, thats with 2 1/2 years driving and 1 years no claims.
Its amazing how much cheaper it gets after the first year!
