The weekly update is not to promote freesat. It's to let people with freesat know that there is great sports coverage on free TV & show they have something to watch even if they cannot afford premium sports channels, like myself. I was looking for an update like this & when I couldn't find one I made it myself.
To the first response, if you look you'll see I mentioned the golf on BBC2.0 -
Further news for freesat, another four music channels have been added today, (Kiss, Kerrang, Smash Hits & The Box). It appears likely that Heat & Magic are joining by the end of april, with CNN HD due for launch in June.
The edge in Sport & dominance in music & HD Channels should give freesat an advantage over freeview soon enough.0 -
Isn't Coady doing exactly what MSE is all about - getting the same thing cheaper? Of course he's promoting Freesat, it has more channels available than Freeview, doesn't have the same regional restrictions and is far cheaper than Sky. Feel 'free' to promote it all you like!0

Cody, thanks for this, it's really useful. I just now need to read up on and buy a good freesat box. Have cancelled Sky.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi Summer01, there are many different boxes available depending on what you want. I will detail each type below.
If you just want a basic standard definition box, then the Bush SD box will be fine for you. These are available for just under £30 at Argos. I currently use this as my second box in my bedroom & it has always done it's job well.
Next is the HD box. These boxes obviously have the 6 HD channels (with 3 more likely before the end of 2013) as well as offering BBC iplayer & in some cases, ITVplayer (if you connect the box to the internet). The Bush HD box is just below £70 in Argos again, although other brands are a similar price online. To check which boxes offer on demand services, check here - freesat.co.uk/what-you-get/on_demand_tv/check-your-box-or-tv-for-on-demand/
If you want a recording box, then the smallest 320GB boxes start at about £130. There are many brands of these boxes all over the internet, so if depends on your preference here. The 320GB box offers roughly 160 hours of standard recording or 80 hours of HD recording. Again some of these boxes offer both of the on demand services, which you can check at the above link.
Finally, its the new Humax 'free time' boxes. These are the brand new recording boxes with an improved layout and many new features, such as a 'showcase' page, recommending shows that are highlighted by TV critics. These new boxes also offer BBCiplayer, ITVplayer & the new Youtube app. 4OD & Demand 5 will also be launching on the free time boxes later in 2013. These boxes are available in 2 sizes, with the smallest (500GB) being availabe for around £240 on Amazon.
There is also a new white free time box, which has built in wifi. This is £299 on the John Lewis website.
If you need to check what channels are available on freesat look here

I hope this helps in some way.
Kind regards,
Daniel
I tried to respond to your PM and don't know if it went through (as my sent folder is still empty), but it's the same as what I've written above. You'll need to add www. at the start of the websites, as I'm not able to post links yet.
Cheers almillar, I will be posting the live football & sport update every friday on here so feel free to use it.0 -

Do remember that people who pay for the premium Sport channels will get this free stuff in addition to their subscriptions.
And really;
That's pretty minority interest.:D
Yes, but as the title says, this thread is for people on a tight budget. This usually means people that don't have the money to get a subscription service. So this is to let people who can't afford subscriptions know that their is sport for them to watch.
Also, I understand your minority interest point. However, this show also has a 'soccer saturday style' vidiprinter at the bottom of the screen throughout the game. This keeps people up to date with scores from England, Scotland & Wales. I must admit I've been pleasently surprised by some Saturday games I've watched.
Also, S4C sometimes show games from Welsh teams in English leagues. For example, the FA Trophy final this year was on the channel as Wrexham featured. In previous seasons, FA Cup & Trophy games featuring Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham & Newport County have all featured on the channel.0 -
