I paid about £230 to collect stuff from my gf's my mums and then finally the house the wife and I bought together. All in all about a 14 miles, used a local company in Carlisle and I would use them again.

I have hired transits with a tail lift for the last 3 moves, very handy for avoiding back pain, and getting heavier items off and on the van. Mine was £69 a day, also entertaining to drive, after a modern car lol

Yeah it makes a change to drive a van, especially with a LWB. Just dont take out any pedestrians around the corners...

Just remember if you are going to buy a van or hire one that you can drive a van on your license, it's not automatically given these days. The same goes for trailers, licenses issued after a certain date do not have trailer permissions.

We paid about 200 in the end from a firm recommended on here ( London- A2B minimoves) they may travel.

we packed ourselves from a 2 bed flat to a 2 bed house about 5 miles away.

they worked like trojans and got us done in 2 hours ( I think they charged us 75 quid an hour, 2 men one van)

Superb service and would recommend again without hesitation
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

All these quotes sound quite cheap to me. We paid about £600 to move about 100 miles. And that was one of the cheaper quotes. We had a lot more *much* more expensive quotes. And that wasn't including packing.

I seem to be paying above average ;)

I'm paying about £1700 to move from a three bed to a four bed. Requires two days as they are packing all valuables, and that also includes a high risk insurance policy as I have quite a lot of expensive items (hi-grade audio eqpt etc). Also have fish tanks and a upright piano to move. I did have cheaper quotes, but the cheapest was only about £300 difference, and the company we choose appeared a lot more professional

I've moved loads of time in recent years. I use the same guy every time. He's a gardener who does removals on the side. The lowest he charged us was £50 for two hours and on the latest occasion we paid £90 for more than three hours. We never thought about insurance. But to be honest - anyone who tried to nick our stuff would be really disappointed!

Totally agree - Mixing bowl gearbox, 0-60 in well, eventually with a tail wind going down hill, Get let out of junctions by your fellow "white van man" just watch the reversing, and going round corners though.

The standard drivers license nowadays covers vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes when fully laden. I have a recent (1997+) rubbish license so had to check up on it all when I drove van for uni down to french alps :)

    Cat B lets you:

Motor vehicles with a MAM not exceeding 3500kg having not more than 8 passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg. Combinations of towing vehicles in category B and a trailer, where the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3500kg and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle.

DKLS: The first time I drove a minibus the instructor had me about an inch away from a porshe reversing around a car park using the mirrors! I was crapping myself but van/minibus wing mirrors are handy. Obv you do have to watch out for something that could be directly behind you :)
