I never bother filling in stars as the whole thing is just stupid.

For example - description 4 = accurate, 5 = very accurate - stupid, a description is either accurate, or it is not!

As to communication, another stupid one - all I want is someone to post in a timely fashion, I simply need an e-mail which Ebay will produce when someone marks that as 'dispatched'. That e-mail comes from Ebay, not the seller, so rating that is potty.

As to postal charges - these are shown upfront, and as I am informed at the time of bidding, I am accepting all the sellers terms and conditions. So why allow me to 'stick the knife in' with low stats after the fact.

It's better not to rate at all...filling in silly stars seems a bit like playschool and you have to be an adult to use Ebay!

Although i agree Ebay should make more effort to explain - you are still marking people down for no reason. I wish i had your Ebay user name to block you.

well fool you if you think it isnt misleading.

I see a 3 as a default score and 4,5 used when someone has gone above a adequate standard.

eg. if everyone worked on your basis for reviews etc. things would always get 10/10.

Not a good way to market your ebay shop when you say you will block people like me who are honest buyers, pay on time. Just because you expect perfect ratings from everyone you sell to. Dont blame me for ebay's silly policies.

anyway you dont need to worry if I buy off you now, I already stated from now on if I feel I cant give a 5 stars but at same time I am not buying of an idiot I will simply ignore the star ratings and leave them blank from now on.

You mean 5/5? My ratings are all above 4.9 - that means most people get it.

I never said they wern't silly - i am well known for my attacks on Ebays's stupid pilicies.

I do block anyone i think is a risk to my stars. That includes none paying bidders, and best offers from people with dubious feedback left for others history. But again - if ebay were not so stupid (and a minority of buyers) - i wouldn't have to. But i would rather be stuck with an item, or sell it cheaper - than deal with the crap some people have to put up with. Lifes too short.

And this thread sums up why the eBay star system makes sellers life so stressful and miserable on eBay.

Whoever thought of this system needs to be shot.

Or, more positively, if the star rating was explained to buyers so that they could see that giving a 3 is akin to saying to the seller "I'm deliberately trying to take your livelyhood away from you" then perhaps less buyers would do it unless it was necessary.

Also, I don't know if anyone else finds the same as me, but if I get a message from a buyer asking about an item before purchasing (and the information is in the listing) then I just ignore the message and block the seller, as these are the ones who seem to give the most grief when they've bought the item.

Most buyers do get it though that's why the average stars are so high- it means the majority of buyers routinely leave 5* unless they have an issue.

There are always exemptions to a 'normal' buyer and however ebay explained it some buyers would not be able to grasp the concept. It was the same with feedback, I recently blocked someone who made an offer on one of my items because they had a habit of leaving a neutral to ask a question.

And, as I think I've previously explained, I've been unlucky enough to find 4 weirdo's out of 800 sales, and this has MASSIVELY put my account at risk, even though I'll do everything possible for my buyers.

The ones who just mark me down without asking for help really really irritate me.

I thought it was just me :D

Yesterday - a buyer sent 3 questions - all clearly answered in the listing. I had also pointed out in the listing that i had originally got the item as a free gift. I do this in case they say "rip off - these items were free 8 years ago". Their message said "i don't believe you got this free - are you sure you did?"

    Blocked and ignored!

Yes I do consider it misleading.

How can rating someone as satisfactory, or a description as accurate be not misleading when its actually giving a rating low enough to get the seller banned?

Those all giving 5 stars as if they a robot, suggests to me either they also sellers so are aware from that side, or they treating it the same as the feedback system in which everyone trades positive feedbacks with each other.

Up until this point my impression was the star system had no impact on the seller's account other than for informational purposes, and that the information wasnt viewable (seems it is?). The description next to the possible ratings is extremely misleading when compared to the consequences of picking those options.

I guess I am dumb for thinking that ebay would treat a rating system the same as other sites do.

bear in mind also I dont have a seller dashboard. Although I have sold things it isnt there. My sister has talked to me about it in the past on the phone as she was moaning about her own bad ratings, but as far as I know she hasnt been banned so I never got the impression before that it had severe consequences.

Now I know why one of my sellers 2 weeks ago inclosed a slip of paper begging me to rate dispatch at 5 stars. I considered it somewhat rude but did give him 5 stars.
