I dont find quick dispatch with slow delivery acceptable yet the ebay rating system has no way to mark that. So I will personally treat dispatch as delivery speed on my ratings.

I rate buyers on things that are in their control, not things that are outside their sphere of influence. If I need an item to be delivered on a certain day, I find a seller than uses a service that suits my requirements.

How you leave feedback is up to you, but if I post something the day after it's paid and Royal mail take 1 week to get it to you, there's not a lot I can do about it.

    correct soolin.

But on the other flip of the coin, I will never leave negative feedback (which surely is worse?). If the seller however puts a lot of effort into fixing a bad situation I may feel generous, eg. such as chasing the courier company up to ask whats going on.

It seems soolin you cant take negative feedback too well from consumers. I am just trying to give you guys what it feels like from the buyer side of things. eg. whats so bad about getting a 3 star or 4 star rating for dispatch? Buyer's cant even see your ratings anyway, only your feedback.

Also if royal mail take a week to deliver something, here is something you can do about it, first of all as the seller you can contact them (instead of telling the buyer to, as the courier's contract is with the sender), you can stop using that service again, you can use a service which gaurantuees a delivery time rather than just estimating it. You can send a 2nd product next day etc. Many things you can do about it.

eg. once amazon sent me a £120 chair next day delivery, it didnt show up it got lost in DHL's depot. So they sent a 2nd chair at their own expense as well as compensating me. They didnt say wait x amount of weeks tough luck.

I can take negs strangely enough but it is stars that get people banned.

If every buyer started leaving a certain seller 4* instead of 5* that seller would be restricted within a month or so and probably banned shortly after.

It's all to do with statistics,

Also I suspect if you left a neg everytime someone didin't meet your standard you would also find yourself being told gently by ebay to sort out your feedback or face a ban. Also do not forget that stars ar enot anonymous, many of us report our buyers who we feel leave poor stars unjustly- and ebay apparently now monitor those complaints.

I , for instance, would routinely block any buyer who leaves a 3 or lower star without telling me they have an issue.

As for how ebay restrict sellers, you might find this thread interesting:

I normally do the same, but some things are rare and then only 1 seller has what I want. But yes I agree in that delivery options offered does affect who I buy from as well as experiences of certian sellers.

If an item goes completely missing on a normally good courier service I am sympathetic to the seller in that situation as long as they do the right thing, as ultimately they are responsible for me recieving the goods.

And in these rare situations, you could always message the seller and offer to pay for whatever service suits you best rather than leaving poor DSR on the service that is advertised and you accepted by bidding on the item.

I had a buyer who insisted he needed his items within two days and was happy to pay Airsure to ensure this - postage cost him more than 4x the value of the item, but he was happy to do it. It wouldn't have been fair for him to leave me poor DSR if he hadn't received the item in his timescale on the service I advertised in my listing.

I agree. However, I'm refering to you equating to the delivery time to dispatch time.

Well for a start i didnt know 4 stars can get you banned, thats seems quite harsh as 4 stars is still saying its good, so you know I believe from memory I have never rated anyone below 3 stars on the rateings to this date. It would have to be extremely bad for me to rate 1 stars, so whilst I consider 5 stars reserved for excellence, I also consider 1 star to only be used in extreme circumstances. In the OP's situation whilst I would have deducted dispatch I probably wouldnt have gone down to 1 star maybe 2 or 3 stars.

I will read the thread and may even complain to ebay if it is the case 4 stars gets sellers banned. Because if thats the case the star rating in my view is misleading to those using it. Because if you select 4 stars it still says you are satisfied.

A small private seller can get no more than 2 x lows (1 or 2 *) in any category before facing the possibility of going below standard and losing their ability to get free listings. Even a smallish business selelr can face issues with 3 x low stars (1 or 2*) in a year.

The overall percentage feedback needs to be 4.4 or above to retain an average selling rating, drop below that and a seller agains faces restrictions. So if everyone left 4 * as an average score a seller would be restricted and end up probably banned.

With your method all the big mega sellers will probably be fine, you will of course destroy all the smaller sellers that also work outside the home and cannot ship every day or cannot subsidise the postage.

In future its quite possible I will just ignore the star ratings from now on unless, I am prepared to give 5 stars or if i feel the person has been an idiot and deserves low ratings.

Since it looks clear to me the star system is too misleading and not really fit for the purpose its presented to buyers.

Please remember not all buyers are sellers and as such dont know how the star system works for sellers.

eg. what I have often done is given 3 stars on communications, I generally gave 3 when I recieved no communicaiton at all which would fit with the description of "neither satified or dissatisifed" when the reality is I have trashed their ability to trade on ebay. If the seller send me notice it dispatched I would give tham at least 4 stars, and if they gone to the trouble of manually messaging me with further info, or answered any questions I asked quickly they got 5.

Although i agree Ebay should make more effort to explain - you are still marking people down for no reason. I wish i had your Ebay user name to block you.
