DFS 6 mth old sofa has broken due to thin wood

Hi, sorry that it has taken this to make me join here but here's the story....
4 yrs interest free sofa bought from DFS 6 months ago. Past month I have put my elbow thru the wood beneath the leather on 2 separate arms by putting my weight on my elbow to get out of my seat. I have done this on my previous sofa for 15 years without a problem.
They insisted to have the repairer around first, he wasn't happy with he internal quality as well, said it was probably made of thin plywood, he said he would replace all arms with a stronger thicker wood, he wasn't surprised to see me disagree.
I went to see the store manager Saturday and he refused to take it back and cancel our DD.
Is there anything anyone can do to help please, I do to want this for obvious reasons
Thanks
Paul

The retailer has the choice Im afraid
Repair
Replace
Refund.
He will obviously go for the cheapest route.
Don't under any circumstances stop your direct debit.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks, that's terrible isn't it?0

What is terrible is that people buy sofas from DFS and that DFS are still in business.
Half price, an extra £200 off and 4 years Interest Free Credit....
Who do you think is paying for that 'double discount' and that Interest Free Credit on that £999 sofa?
You are, because that Chinese sofa is equivalent in quality to a £300 one from a local retailer, not the £2300 one that it 'was' before the 'Sale'.
14-18 weeks for delivery? That's because container ships take a long time to circumnavigate the World.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
If it's repaired properly and you have no more problems then why do you want to return the sofa? You could always ask for a partial refund for the inconvenience.0

Regardless of the reason not to want a repair.
The side framework will be of a thin material probably thinner than the broken tops, which will not be strong enough to support a heavier thicker wood. So will need replacing too!?
I took the repair warranty out to protect our mistakes not to replace their inferior design.
Opposite DFS was Jessops, can't believe they've gone and DFS haven't.0 -

They "get away with it" because that is what the law says they have to offer.0 -
OP in future think long and hard about buying from the sheds (not only in furniture). Their pricing model is at best set to confuse and you could almost suggest deceive.
From carpets, to beds you will invariably get the a better quality product at a similar price from either a local independent or small online retailer.0 -

Not really, it wouldn't be fair on retailers to have to fork out for a replacement whenever something broke, plus it'd offer a whole new avenue for abuse with people making minor faults up to get a new item.0
