Maybe you have an airlock. I'd suggest turning on the central heating and turn the hot water off and then turn off all but one radiator. If that rad heats up then turn on the next then turn off that one. Do that for all radiators so the pump is running full bore through just one radiator for each radiator in turn and see if they all get warm individually. This should also shift any air lock. And if not you could also try turning the pump speed to 3 to force the air out.

After that you'll need to bleed the radiators again. And it is a good idea only to bleed radiators with the pump off. If the CH is done right the pump should increase the pressure but done wrong an you can have negative pressure when the pump is on so bleeding lets in air rather than letting it out.

Hi thanks for the reply. I think hubby has tried all that but will check.

We've been advised to look at a rubber seals in the thermostats on the radiators (think that's what they are called) because this can be a problem if the radiators have been switched off.

Not sure if we can turn the hot water off on a combi boiler?
  • what size is the piping on to the rads

try this, get the smallest rad upstairs, turn off both ends of the rad, and empty it of water, connect back up and turn on heating, but keep both ends closed, when the rads downstairs are hot, open both ends on the empty rad and bleed it, and it should get hot, you might have to repressure the boiler when doing this as well, when it is hot just leave it running for a bit,,

also what colour is the water coming out of rads black/clear

Just a thought, have you checked that the 'pin' in the TRV is not seized?

If you take the top off the TRV(the knurled nut) you will see a pin that is spring loaded. With little used radiators they can get stuck down in the 'off' position. Just 'exercising' them a little(use pliers) will solve the problem.
