Arghhhh,
I have 16 days to go and had NEVER wanted a videographer (because I hate my voice and hearing myself talk) but after seeing another ladys highlight video last night I have really warmed to the idea, seeing all the little moments and the emotion on peoples faces was really heartwarming to see and I really enoyed it.
The guy who did theirs is free to do ours and has quoted £395, is that a good price for 5 hours? We get a highlights video and a full summary included, my photographer knows him and rates him very highly but it's another £395 and I am not sure how OH will react ( no point telling him in advance as he would just panic).
We only have a tiny wedding and there are lots of surprises for OH on the day so it would be nice to relive them and show our highlightds video at our evening reception (which is when we get back from honeymoon).
Help?!!

How does your OH feel about it? Friends of mine had a videographer, but the groom was really uncomfortable about it - in the end he was so nervous about doing his speech and having it recorded that he mucked it up (in his mind he did anyway, but we all thought it was fine!) and he felt 10 times worse about it because he knew it had all been recorded...
Also my workmate was persuaded into getting a video and says she never ever watches it and the only one who gets any use out of it is her Gran.
I decided not to, because like you, I knew I would cringe at hearing myself (and watching myself!) I want to remember my day with my own rose tinted view of it :rotfl:and not think 'why did I make that face?' or 'look, my hair is sticking out there' or whatever. The photos were enough for us, but if you think it would be something that you would cherish and watch all the time then go for it!0 -
It worries me that your entering married life saying 'no point telling OH what I'm about to do'. Considering spending just under £400 on something you're not sure about, without consulting the man you're marrying and will (at least to some extent) be sharing your finances with?
If you're going to make this decision, involve him. I'm guessing if it's from the wedding budget then it's his money you'll be spending as well.
£395 is a great price. It's 'five hours' to you, but the time a videographer puts into importing the video, editing it and exporting it to give to you will take many more hours. But, £395 is not a great price when it creates a secret and when you're spending someone else's money on something they might not want.0 -

Thanks for your input. My OH isn't doing a speech because he doesn't feel comfortable standing up in front of people. Our wedding is very small for this reason as well. It's hard to know whether we would really watch it or not until we had it isn't it?

I think you have taken what I wrote in the wrong way, I wouldn't tell him because with 2 weeks to go his nerves are starting to fray and he would just worry obsessively until the actual day when in reality it will be fine and he will be ok but he has a very bad habit of procrastinating in an amazing fashion.
We don't have joint finances as such yet, this would not be coming from a joint wedding budget, there isn't one. I have funded the majority and this would be no exception so no need to keep telling me I am spending someone elses money!

If he is a nervous sort do you think if sees the guy there on the day it would maybe make him even more uncomfortable like my friend's other half? It just made him constantly feel like he was going to mess something up and ruin the video (not just the speech, the vows and just things in general).
I guess you might not know if you would watch it or not - but me and my OH knew straight away that we would never want to watch it (the cringe factor as I mentioned :rotfl:) It's a difficult decision, but I'm not sure you should make it without involving your OH - although you know him best seen as you are marrying him
Hope it all goes great whatever you decide!0 -
Hi jtr. Interesting dilemma....
Personally I have never wanted a videographer - can't bear the thought of seeing and hearing myself 'in action'! However I think that price sounds VERY good.
I must agree with others who have said that most people don't tend to really watch the video much after the initial excitement.
Why do you think it has suddenly come into your head? Is it just last minute panic 'have I covered everything'?0 -

It could be! I always had this image of what a wedding video looked like in my head and the one I saw yesterday was completely the opposite and was just really personal and moving and not what I was expecting at all. There is enough money for it if I want it and yes, I need to consider my OHs reaction on the day of course, I just can't work out how valuable it will be in the grand scheme of things to us.
It has also occured to me that because of his nerves (and the fact he has already admitted he will be having a drink or two in the morning) he might miss quite a bit as it will go past in a haze so it would be nice to be able to see it from a different angle/re-live it. Going to call good old mum on the way home to see what she thinks!
What a difficult dilemma

If you can definitely afford it and won't go without something to pay for it...maybe you should just go for it!0 -
Is there something on you-tube similar so we can say whether we'd go for it or not? I'm sure I know what you mean......Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

I think it's on his facebook, not you tube. Am worried I will look silly now and that's what all wedding videos look like....I've only seen the highlights bit so far!
