Neither are "hidden", and the CC fee isn't charged in the first year anyway if you open the 123 current account (and meet the other criteria).

You need to read all the T&Cs...ie not just the 3% interest and cashback bits! ;)
but whats really getting my goat is trying to use and remember all the info for internet banking.
I don't know what 'new' customers get, but all I have to remember is an 8 digit number and a 5 digit password. Not too difficult?
    maybe its me
    Seems that way. :)

Just moved to Santander and its doing my head in, the switch itself was staright forward but I feel (maybe it's me) that there where a few hidden charges that I hadn't picked up on like the 1.00 a day over draft fee and the credit card annual charge. but whats really getting my goat is trying to use and remember all the info for internet banking.

currently planning on ditching the santander account and going back to first direct (i haven't closed my account) or may just set up a s/o back to the FD account for any amonuts above my DD's need to decide which. just my expereince and maybe its me

All charges and fee were in the T&C's of the account and were not hidden as others have pointed out some were even pointed out in big red writting when you opened the account.

So nothing was hidden you obviously didn't read them or chose to ignore them

The info for internet banking is far simpler than First Direct in my experience, in fact you have to remember less for Santander than you do with First Directs online banking procedure.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

The most irritating part of FD's login process is that I can't press 'enter' to get to the next page after inputing my details. I have to physically move the mouse to click on 'proceed'. It's hassle. Really slows me down!

    Santander wins this round :rotfl:

I remember complaining about this months ago, got a reply saying "We are improving our internet banking, please wait until this improvements are completed". It seems they ignored me :(

They don't need to listen to customers and improvement suggestions since they have that huge fan club who are so taken by their "excellent customer service" that there is nothing that needs improving.

Yes I didn't read all the t&cs when I applied as earning interest on the current account was not my main motivation for getting it.
Without DDs it looks like I will just have to be happy with the 123 account minus the added extras.

In terms of the cashback element, I would only want to transfer the five direct debits that would gain cashback, and I would keep the vast majority of my DD's/SO's in my First Direct Current Account.

Does anyone know if Santander's DD switching service allows you to specify exactly which DDs you want to move or as I would not be moving all of them do I have to instruct the transfer each one individually myself?

    Cheers,
    TE

Yep you can specify, but it's far easier to switch them yourself (if you want), then you'll have no concerns as to whether it's being done and if it's being done correctly !
You DON'T have to use the switching service to get the 3%.

Wouldn't you be better off moving to a no-fee current account?

Paying £2 a month and not getting any cashback or earning interest isn't really very MSE.

Have just set up 123 Account and transferred funds into it, but the 2 DD's have yet to be set up. I know I have 1 month from account opening in which to set up 2 DD's, but then I wondered whether I'd only start to earn interest from when the DD's have been set up. I rang CS to check and was told this was the case, but as it sounded a bit of an odd scenario I decided to ring again and ask the same question, and (surprise, surprise) got a different answer, in that as long as the DD's were set up within the month, the funds would be earning interest from when they were received into the account (which sounds far more feasible). Just wondered if anyone could confirm one way or another, please.

It would be reasonable to assume that interest is calculated daily regardless, and on the date it's due to be credited to your account, the following checks are made:
    1. At least £500 has been deposited over the previous month.
    2. Two direct debits have been set up.
If both are true, the interest is credited.
