Might be worth forcing young drivers to have a digital taco installed just like lorrys and busses for young drivers that way police will have a very clear picture what they have been up to.
That would assist the prosecution but it's not a prevention.
Who would pay? Everyone else.0 -

And how often do you see the police out on the road ? The Traffic departments died off or were decimated years ago, so that now they are ineffective and of little or no use, plus the tree hungers, human rights brigade will rant on.0 -
A driver in his 20s at the wheel of an Audi TT??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I had one as a company car when I was 23. It had six months left on the lease and everyone else in the company understood how company car tax worked!
It was a fun car, when it worked, so unreliable though.0 -
Thank you for the thanks, But in the county i live we have had 2 young driver deaths for reckless driving something has to be done. I feel sorry for the family's that suffer as a consequence. I have give my idea but i'm sure others have better. Why is it we have very strong motorbike laws regards engine size and brake horse power etc yet cars we do not it's PLAIN WRONG. As cars get more and more powerful with better engine tec then it is time to act.0

These kinds of laws when they come out are always badly thought out.
Australia has something similar to what you are after but IIRC it's based purely on vehicle power, so you can still get yourself into trouble in a tiny little RWD turbo nutter vehicle like the Suzuki Cappuccino, but you can't drive a big estate with enough power to get it moving if you actually load it up with stuff.
Then you have the Northern Ireland R plate law where people in their first year of driving are prohibited from going above 45mph, even on motorways. This basically turns you into a rolling roadblock, getting overtaken by lorries on the motorway, and other people doing dangerous overtakes on single carriageways.
Even the motorbike law has it's issues. I used to live near a steep hill and the only way a moped stood a chance to get up it was for the rider to go completely onto the wrong side of the road at top speed, and take the corner as wide as possible in order to preserve momentum and then the bike would just about make it to the top. Unless there was someone coming the other way at speed in which case there would be a crash.0 -

TBH, when I see a 20 something driving anything remotely like that, I just assume it's dads/mums car. I think most people do....“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

And that Audi drivers are c*cksAnd that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
All the talk of restricting engine size makes me laugh a little bit. My daughter had a little tiny Daewoo Matiz with an engine smaller than my hair dryer. She still managed to crash and end up with a severe brain injury and is in a neuro rehab facility now.0
