If it's Windows 8 use free AVG rather than Avast as Avast causes problems with internet explorers.

Some on here would regard this as a good thing :)

    NOD32 is the best, it's not free but it's a great anti-virus!

Windows 8 comes with a decent enough AV built in, though feel free to replace it with another (I like NOD32, but not free)

Whatever you do, do not install McAfee, it is terrible, causes more harm than good.

I wouldn't bother. Norton is pretty good these days, but it's still a bit of a resource hog that will slow your system down. If you're going to pay for an AV, get NOD32.
  • I have used Norton all my life and it has never caused me any problems. I find the posts on here about viruses etc. are usually from people who have the free anti v's. If I were you I would extend the Norton when it asks you to.
