Options
Hi, my problem is i have a contract phone with t-mobile which my oh got me christmas time,i hardly use the phone at all no interest in ringtones, music, texts ect in fact i can harly use the thing. it was just really for my son to be able to contact me or for if my car broke down.anyway i recived my phone bill today it is all on one page and just says:

Monthly charge total £14.89

Mobile Data
19MB 91kB outside of allowance £121.84

when my oh phoned t-mobile they were so unhelpfull, eventually told him to contact a company called BOLTBLUE on 08700209312 which we did and their automated service said that i had no contract with them.
can they really charge me all this money? it is making me feel so stressed i can't even get to sleep! please can anyone give me some advice as to what i do next.

why didnt you get PAYG if you dont use it?

If you texted to boltblue to get a ringtone or registerd on their website for a "free" ringtone then you have agreed to pay them £4.50 per week

    * Boltblue Club is a subscription service. Get up to 9 ringtones, videos, colour wallpapers, logos, greeting cards and picture messages and up to 90 PC to mobile SMS for just £4.50 per week until you send STOP to 85233.
** You will be charged £4.50 for the content, plus the standard cost of sending an SMS. Pre-pay users ensure that you have enough credit to receive texts.

If you did get the tones, then im afraid nothing can be done. If you didnt get them on the other hand, you must contact BB asap and tell them.

Basics of it is, can they charge you that money? yes if you subscribed to bolt blue or a sister company

Do you have to pay it? Yes, as it is not t-mobiles fault

Can you reclaim the money back? Depends - did you request them or not, if not then ICSTIS might help.

But this is not bolt blue that is the problem. You have been on the WAP service - so have you inidvertadly hit the 0 key to launch WAP service when putting phone away? as 19MB is a LOT for a mobile phone! and ring tones cost £4.50 per week - £18 per month...... if this is the case, then nothing can be done im afraid.

I will say though, lock your keypad - its the best way

You do need to text STOP to 85233 asap to stop it.

You can E-Mail Customer services: help@boltblue.com to see if they can throw any light on the matter.
  • thanks for the replies so far.
i know i have never requested anything of them! and although i didn't even know how to lock the keypad untill recently i just wouldn't have a clue about downloading.(there is next to nothing on my phone except the default rings)
the reason oh got me a contract phone not a PAYG is just because he knew i wouldn't use it or put money on it so we would be back to square one where no one could get hold of me.
Even if i had to pay £4.50 a week as mclaren said that would still only be £18.00 what about the other £180.00?
p.s my son and niece thought it was funny just cos i wanted a ringtone that rung instead of played music, that is how unimportant these things are to me.

thanks again for taking the time to reply!

Have you (or your son!) been using the internet on it?

  • i have just tried the ICSTIS site and all it said was:

This is what we know about the number you entered (08700209312).

ICSTIS does not regulate this type of number. However we can tell you the following.
This is classified as a Special Services higher rate: BT’s Standard National Call Retail Price for BT customers number.
It is provided by PNC Telecom Services Limited

i just cant belive t-mobile lets this happen,if it was a bank and there was unusuall activity they would contact you.

How long woul my phone have to be on this site to download all that info?and where is it cos it's not on my phone?can i ask what i was supposed to download?
sorry for all the questions, but at the moment i think i will probablly have a phone phobia for the rest of my life.
  • no! my son has his own phone and thinks mine is rubbish so he never uses it.

I am not sure why you are using the Icstis site to find out about Bluebolts 0870 number. This is only their contact number and will have no bearing on the bills.

I have got a Virgin pay as you go phone, and it is not necessary to top upto be able to receive calls.
I believe there must be other networks that do the same.

Whilst Virgin dont enforce it at the present time, their T&C says you must make or recieve a call every 180 days. Other networks have similar rules but will cut you off if you dont make/recieve the calls.

yes which basicly - if you phone your house phone, answer it yourself, hang up 2 seconds later - that is the clock reset for another 180 days
