chinese takeway illegal charges!

Last night I decided to get a chinese takeaway. I usually walk to one of 2 near by but it was raining cats and dogs so decided against this. I instead ordered from a new chinese about 5 minutes drive away that pushed a menu through my letterbox. Anyway I ordered £8.20 worth of food for me and a mate. It came within 30 minutes - so far so good but then the delivery driver said that'll be £10.20 please...I said no it was £8.20. He said sorry but we charge £2 delivery charge but it's not mentioned on the menu and I bet they forgot to tell you about it when you called. I said yes. He said in future it's free on orders over £10 - which I would have done if I'd known. I had a set too with the takeaway but they didn't budge. Won't use them again. But surely if they are going to charge (which is a very high charge for round here - £1 is normal under £7) then they must have it print on the menu or tell you when you order?

I think you should petition the OFT for an enquiry into it........
Martin - can we also have a board for illegail delivery charges please.
Thanks0 -
gazza. no need for that. I'm a student and dont like giving away free money so if an extra £2 was added to my order I wouldnt be happy either.
No one asked for your un-needed and unhelpful advice. So dont post.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I would have refused to pay and made them take the food back. I'm sure they would have relented when they realisedthey wouldn't get anything for the food.
Although, hindsight is a wonderful thing.0 -
But albertross is right, no point posting on here after you've accepted the charge. It was the OP's call to say 'No' and leave it to them to decide whether to take it back or accept his £8.20.0

Round here the minimum free delivery total is £10.Nelly's other Mr. Hyde0

I used to be a delivery driver (what a great job), we had one lad who used to alter the order/deliver note and stick an extra £1 or £2 on it, only did it after midnight when everyone was mostly drunk. Has this happened here?0

I think whats happened is an oversight on the owners on the takeaway or a error on the printers. The one I go to charges £1 under £10 or £1 if its 3 miles out from town, although its free if order is above £10 accept if its 3 miles out of town.
Yes the principle is that it should have stated or the menu should have had a sticky on the menu and or the telephone person who took your order should of stressed this.
Its not the drivers fault, however you were ultimately quite right to refuse paying, but since you had its too late.
You could take it up with the Chinese takeway maybe they will give you a discount next time as mine does if a error is made.0 -
our chinese reads your order back to you and tells you the total ( they only take cash)Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0

i always ask what the total cost will be, leaflets through the door go out of date quite quickly.0

You need to get back to reality! Doesnt virtually every take away charge a delivery cost?
Did the OP ask how much delivery was?0
