Nationwide card issues

The FlexPlus cards are 4751 45 - which shows as an RBS BIN. Which is why I rasied the question...I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Seems all very strange to me this using the same BIN as RBS coupled with the strange upgrade on the FlexPlus account that required an internal money transfer and now both having card refusal issues.
I'm wondering if there is some relationship going on here with RBS.
Remember Nationwide were going to buy RBS branches but that was dropped at the end of the year due to IT issues. I'm wondering if Nationwide have been working on a joint IT system with RBS. Maybe the branch buy out will be back on.MFiT-T3 #149: {Q4/14} (£46,447)-->(£0) ~ +£46,447=100%

As an aside, just spent £220 with my FlexAccount card in Currys (4543) and it sailed through.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Why are Nationwide using Natwest/RBS issued cards for their new accounts?reclusive46 wrote: »The BIN is the first 6 digits, not the first 4. Is it because Nationwide is not a clearing bank, but a building society using another bank (RBS) for clearing?0 -

noh is spot on. Nationwide are the only Building Society that is also a clearing house.
Here are the facts so far, upon upgrading to FlexPlus:
1) You have to wait for the following weekend for your upgrade to go through (if you're upgrading)
2) When the upgrade goes through, you lose your transaction history on internet banking. It also shows up on the upgraded account an "internal transfer" with any funds "pre-upgrade" being added.
3) You get a new debit card with a BIN that appears to correlate to an RBS Visa BIN range.
I would love to know what is going on there......I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
The first 6 digits are linked to the issuer not the first 4 - e.g. A&L and Citibank had Visa Debit cards starting 4567 but were not linked.
Nationwide were probably looking for new card ranges and I doubt RBS group needed all of the 4751 xx prefix for itself .
As regards to the upgrade procedure and loss of data; it's just a poor setup of their banking systems; nothing more or less. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Re-read my post. I quoted 6 digits.
4751 44 and 4751 45 show up as BIN numbers belonging to RBS Group. So Nationwide are using cards with an RBS BIN.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019.
