    My question is:
    1) Are they actually right and using my debit card for everything is unsafe?
    2) How do stop getting pestered every time?

    Ta, J.

    1. They are talking a load of rubbish. I work in a cards fraud department and there is no diffrence in security or risk of fraud on either type of card.
Use a credit or debit card in the same places and there is exactly the % risk of fraud.
So next time they bring that up (Time for some fun) ask to see proof of this and then if this is the case. Why are you exposing their customers to such a risk.
If they can not give you this ask to speak the the mananger and raise a complaint. Might see a few £££ chucked in your direction as if not resolved FOS would be very interested in this matter. Given how they hate miss-selling of products.

    2. If you can not be bothered to have some fun. Then simply say NO and please do not ask me again when I come in or I will be forced to raise a complaint about constant pushy sales tatics.

    A few easy options-
1)- Don't keep going into your bank. Use online, telephone banking, cash machines etc.
2)- Make a joke of it and say "no thanks before they even ask"
3)- Take out the CC and make use of it. It won't harm you. Problem solved.

Changing banks would likely end up with the same issue, so not much point unless you are shopping around for a decent current account deal. It's what staff are pressured to do so will happen everywhere.

    I just say No Thanks.
I wouldn't be rude or trouble to them as they are only doing their job, which they probably hate :(

Yes, I have heard this about Nationwide as well, so hopefully most banks/BS will follow. It will certainly bring a smile to most of the bank staff's faces.

Most banks are now scrapping sales targets as per the links which have been posted.

I can't see the point in approaching customers over everything listed on their account - a lot of them will clearly not be interested! And if they say no, that should be the end of it.

The frustrating thing is when you know someone could genuinely get a better deal at no cost to themselves, but they instantly dismiss your approach as 'sales tactics' - when it's (using savings as an example) the same type of easy access account just with a higher interest rate

The opposite thing to the OP happened to me. I rarely go in branch, but the last time I went I actually did want a credit card for their BT offer. I got asked, and I said yes, is it pre-approved? They then took 10 minutes to do some searching and couldn't find out, and offered to call me back but didn't.

I still keep getting a letter from some sales staff every 2 weeks asking me to call them. If they want to waste £3 a month posting this out then it's their decision, but I'd rather they increased my interest rate to 5%

Hah I agree with that, partly due to working for a bank I guess, I'm actively looking to be approached when I go into banks - and quite happy I am! Halifax are constantly writing to me trying to make me take their 'Ultimate Reward' account and/or a loan. Not interested and only want credit cards, but it's good to see I'm considered worthy of a loan.

Was rather disappointed when I went into branch when there was a very long queue and was told to use the self service deposit machine - wanted to be approached about a loan at the counter and then ask for an indication of my limit!
