Just connect via wifi0

iPads come in two forms
WiFi only
WiFi and 3G
Using the WiFi aspect, if you have a wireless router at home, you can connect to this and use the router's connection without any charges over and above what you pay to Virgin Media already (as long as the additional use doesn't take you over any data cap you may have). You can also connect to any open WiFi network when out and about at no cost.
If you want to use it away from WiFi networks, you need a 3G model. You also need a SIM card from one of the mobile providers, and a data package to go with the SIM card.

Yes you can just use your iPad as normal on the internet at home via wireless. You'll find the iPad will pick the wireless up almost straightaway and all you need is the wireless password, that you should have set up already.
And standby for a whole heap of posts suggesting you consider buying something else.0 -
Well pleased with my Ipad, using Virgin Media myself no problems using WiFi also when out and about using Wifi hotspots.
WiFi only no 3g phone.
ps/ I know there are other alternatives, but it works for me.;)There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0 -

Away from wifi, you'll need 3g - or a phone with tethering/wifi hotspot facility0 -

In response to the bit in bold ( be easier to use the quote button OP ) yes when abroad you would either use wifi hotspots/wifi connection in hotels or get a specific sim with a data allowance for use abroad ( using your own 3g sim can be costly when abroad so only use it sparingly ).0 -

The bit in bold was quoted from my earlier post - OP, WiFi networks or hotspots don't cover the whole of the UK. You're unlikely to find any outside of towns, cities or villages of any size, so if you want access to the internet when out and about you need a 3G model with a SIM card/data package applicable to the UK.
You MAY need a different SIM card for different countries, or you may be able to get one from a UK supplier that covers other countries, ask the 3G/phone suppliers like Orange, Vodaphone etc or look up the info on their websites.
