  • Hi Orange Ena,
I know you have bigger things to think about than boiler insurance so hope you don't mind me asking but does your emergency household insurance for things going wrong also cover your boiler? Your company seem to be good at turning up and helping out :)

Hi DIA, course I don't mind. I'm with Nat1onwide and as far as I can see, the insurance is only for members, so you need a savings or current account or mortgage with them. I've got Home Insurance Essentials (the cheaper cover) but the Home Emergency cover is an additional £21.28 for the year. This is the gem which covers all sorts.....

    http://www.nationwide.co.uk/products/insurance/home-insurance/combined-insurance#xtab:home-emergency

    Copy and pasted:
With optional home emergency cover you'll receive extensive cover for a range of emergencies such as roof damage, vermin infestation, a burst pipe or a broken down boiler.
24 hour assistance if a home emergency occurs and you need a tradesman to make your home safe, secure and prevent further damage.
You are covered for up to £500 to deal with emergency problems such as:
    Roof damage.
    Plumbing and drainage problems.
    Main heating system failure.
    Domestic power supply failure.
    Toilet unit damage or failure.
    Damage to doors and windows.
    Loss of keys.
    Vermin infestation.
Cover is up to £500 (incl. VAT) in total for call-out charges, labour costs and parts and materials.
You should report an incident as soon as is reasonably possible (normally within 48 hours of the emergency happening). This is not a maintenance contract and cover is provided for emergencies in the home only.
You are covered for incidents that are sudden, unexpected and require immediate corrective action. You are not covered for day to day maintenance of your property. Further limits and exclusion apply, please see the policy documents for details.

So I think it's covered? But I guess you have to have a yearly service of the boiler, I know I did with my old boiler cover years ago. They were really good and very efficient for the 3 times I've called them out!!! Well worth it in my opinion.

I'm glad you've asked actually as I didn't realise it was covered. My boiler is 4 years old and the company that installed it do the services and everything has been fine so far. But handy to know for my new flat boiler :):)

Thanks parsniphead :) I am close in one way but I'm currently making no effort to pay extra to my CC so paying £60 pm will still take me ages!! Once I've moved, I will get a wriggle on and pay it off, that's the plan anyway :) Can't wait to get rid now.

I started getting a sore throat last weekend which then developed into a lovely snotty chesty cold. I managed to get through work on Monday and I had planned to just get on with it but then Tuesday morning I tripped over in the middle of the road  A car had kindly stopped to let me cross the busy road so whether I was rushing or just a bit clumsy, I don't know. But it hurt! I was lying on the ground, stunned, trying to figure out if I'd broken anything (of all the times previously where I wanted to break my wrist, I didn't want to at that point :D ) when the lovely car just went round me and drove off :rotfl: Luckily the lady behind and another lady came to see if I was alright, bless em :T I got into work but I was in quite a mess, in pain, bleeding, one big snotty mess :p So I went home at lunch time and I had the rest of the week off :o:o

When I got home Tuesday lunchtime, I'd just flopped on the sofa, about to start sobbing, wondering if I'd hit rock bottom (ever the drama queen :rotfl:) when my solicitor rang to say he'd finally heard from my buyers solicitor, after being ignored for over a week, with good news.........they were all ok and ready to proceed :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j

And oh my giddy aunt..........we exchanged yesterday!!!!!

This is really happening, it really is. I cannot believe it's actually worked. Over a year of dreaming about moving to my hometown and changing my job and I've only gone and pulled it off :p I feel like a Bond villain, sat stroking my cats, feeling very pleased that my masterplan to [STRIKE]take over the world[/STRIKE] move house and get a new job has worked.

I'm moving the week after next so full steam ahead now. They initially wanted to complete on the 12th but that only gave me 6 days after exchange which isn't enough time to get rid of some furniture, sort the movers, finish packing, get time off work etc,

I need to contact the new job on Monday and negotiate a start date (and check that it's still ok) then I can do the one thing I've been wanting to do for years. Hand that darn notice in :T:T:T:T

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Sorry for emoji overuse. Can't help it :o;)
