This was my last free weekend for a couple of months cause I got the supermarket Christmas temp job...

And first dibs on YS and reduced items!?!

Why not check out frecycle, g@mtree and shp@ck for people selling off wardrobes/furniture for the lodger's room? Might save you a few quid and there is decent stuff on there.

Ooh yes, the YS items! Didn't even think of that. Thanks for pointing it out :)

I will check out all those, my budget is pretty low so that's my target, 2nd hand! :)

  • I vote that you scope the cost of some "value" duvets, bedding and the like. If lodger has their own lamp/duvet/sheets/towels then you're safe from overspending. If not, just dash to ik@a and get them on the cheap!
I used to have all that stuff as I like to make the place "my own" as I travelled a lot. Other people are not so precious!

Thanks again. I'm really pleased with how big the spare room looks now I've de-junked it. I'll definitely be popping along to Ike@ when I'm ready. Got my eye on a wardrobe and a chest and some soft furnishings and I can get a few bits from Am@zon too. Do you provide bedding and towels for your lodgers? I'll probably have more questions! Thank you, you'll regret saying that! :rotfl::D

Wow, you are on a roll!! Have you decluttered already? Fantastic stuff!

Isn't it amazing how it makes you feel good when you do that?

I do not provide bedding and towels, I have offered a couple of times, but the answer has always been no thanks. People seemed to always have their own stuff. In my experience anyway.
I'd do what Gonna said. If they need it, you can always go to Tesco and get a £15 set. Or they can. Hold off for now. Maybe you find someone who has just broken up with their partner (this has often been quoted to me as reason for moving) and has a lot of furniture? That's why my last lodger brought her own bed with her.

One thing I would advise is to look for someone who is not too easy going, if you see what I mean. I find that people like that tend to cause a lot of damage, because they don't know the worth of things. The people who are more organised tend to be more demanding but also disciplined and can stick to agreements, accepted their responsibilities etc.
This is my L2, I just discovered yesterday that a bit of the enamel in my sink has been chipped off - it's a new sink too, only had the bathroom done in Feb 15. Albo, i found a mig ring on my Wooden coffee table and aside my L1, who smiled and said "it wasn't me" so then asked L2 who said she didn't know if it was her. Apparently there was a cafetière on the table and when she moved it she noticed the mark, but she couldn't be sure if it was her who caused it.
What can you do??? Best to avoid from the start.

Thanks, I've been looking at Amazon and have found some very reasonably priced duvets and duvet sets. I've still got £93 in my Am@zon balance so I might as well use that, if I need to. I'll see if the new lodger has their own before I buy though, you're right :)

I've been decluttering for years, no joke! I did have what I thought was a big declutter earlier this year but now all my stuff is in my room, I think there's scope for getting rid of more. Just need the time to do it! It does feel great to get rid of stuff, definitely. I might get that Marie K0ndo book for an extra push :D

Cheers for the advice on the bedding and furniture.....I will hold back on that for now.

I can totally see what you mean about that. I want someone who'll treat my house as their own as in, not wrecking stuff. I've only got cheap ike@ tables and generally cheap furniture so I'm honestly not too bothered about that. I'd be more bothered about my kitchen and the wooden flooring being safe. It's different if it's my fault but I'll be gutted if anything major gets damaged through their recklessness. My friend left her straighteners on my carpet once which singed it.....bit gutting but what can you do?!!
