Limitation Act

A flight from LHR to the USA in 2005 was delayed/cancelled and as a result we were over 24hours late and missed an arranged meeting. I tried claiming back in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and was denied a refund or free flight. I contacted BA in December 2012 to pursue the claim and they are now stating that the Limitation act 1980 prevents me from claiming as it is over 6 years ago since the delay.
