Letter to my Barclays Branch - Still Possible or is it centralised now ?.

Options
Can I still send a letter to my Barclay's branch and will they reply or will it just get forwarded to some central place to reply ?.

Its not something the call centre could deal with as its only some thing local to the branch, I am living about 200 miles away at the moment so its not possible to just pop in.

Just wanted to know if writing was still possible or is that old fashioned and no longer done.

I had an old Barclays account which I closed a couple of years ago.

I did it all by post -I can't remember the address the letter came back from, but it was a centralised location, not my local branch.

Not sure what your query is that can only be answered locally, unless it's 'are you next door to the chip shop' !

Hi, No its 'Are you next door to McDonalds', no seriously its that my Account is with Barclays 33 English Street Carlisle, its on my statements, its where I went in and opened the account and it appears as 33 English Street Carlisle when I set up Direct Debits. But on the cheque book it says 'Wigton Branch'.

Now Wigton is about 12 miles from Carlisle !, but why is it on my cheque book ?.

Trying to explain that to a foreign call centre would be impossible, I almost lost the will to live the last time I phoned them about a lost cheque !.

Maybe they just decided you were nearer the Wigton branch?

I'm a Carlisle Barclays customer as well - my accounts were opened in Brampton, but it makes no difference to be honest. They are all classed as 'North Cumbria Group'.

There are only Advisors in branches - certainly nobody with any decision-making powers.

Just phone the branch number - it will be answered in Leicester, Sunderland or Pakistan anyway.

What do you actually want to write about? Your 'Bank Manager' works in Leicester and is powered by an Intel processor and runs on Windows....

  • Some banks have centralised their post. So even letters received get stuffed in the overnight bank to be dealt with so I would suggest it does not matter which address you send it to.

Nationwide have never printed your branch address on their cheques; they use their head office/processing centre instead.

All branches are is showrooms with a facility for you to make transactions.
So any post will get forwarded to the department that deals with that query.

Is that what the query is?
Could be that is the main branch fro the area and is where the sort code was based.

You go on a bit of a Grand Tour with Barclays cheque books. My account's been at the Barnard Castle branch for about 45 years and the cheque books have been 'Barnard Castle', 'Teesdale', Darlington and the Dales' and now back to Barnard Castle. All meaningless nowadays anyway but I did like the sound of Darlington and the Dales.

Doesn't matter what it says on your cheque book. They're not read by humans, they're read by machines.

Why are you querying this ?
