I would create a wallet with mtgox.com. It's a well established exchange and one of only a few I would trust. Send your bitcoins to the newly created mtgox wallet and then sell them for GBP. You will be able to withdraw via bank transfer.

Note, you will need to get verified first, which means scanning photo ID and proof of residence.

What other ways are there? I'm a bit confused by their Authentication center with Yubikeys and Software Authenticators. :-(

    I wouldn't touch mt.gox with a bargepole.

If you've got bitcoins to sell you are better off with either localbitcoins or bitstamp.

What difference does it make if silver was viewed as a commodity or money, we still do not know why it was banned?

i think MSE is mainly interested in the practical effects of allowing or banning discussions. they want to promote money saving, ppl taking control of their own finances, and knowledge. they want to avoid - or preferably unmask - scams and ppl ramping anything for their own benefit.

they also want reasonably simple rules, so they don't have to spend a huge amount of time policing discussion on a single topic.

you have to ask yourself what the practical effects of the silver discussion was. and how much effort it was taking to decide when to delete specific posts.

then ask yourself the same questions about the current bitcoin discussion.

I have looked at bitstamp but haven't signed up. Why don't you like mt.gox?

Is it easy to sell them? I looked at localbitcoins earlier and they had the names of people fairly local selling coins. In fact they weren't bitcoins but litecoins. I went back a couple of hours later and the same names seemed to be there. So they hadn't been successful in selling their coins. OK litecoins may not be as liquid.

Localbitcoins only deals with Bitcoin, not Litecoin.
  • Its very easy to sell BTC. I could buy them right now if you like, its not much different from us exchanging notes like you'd do with cash.

Theres usually a tiny fee, I believe its possible to refuse and pay nothing but it might take a day for the system to acknowledge you. If we were sitting in a car park waiting for it to clear, that would suck.

There is no requirement to deal with a central authority or large website. You dont have to sign up to any company really, thats all about convenience

Be careful, reading your post makes it sound like you are offering a trade. I don't know what the rules are, but I'm sure MSE wouldn't take too kindly to it.

If you intend to trade with each other, maybe you could PM and keep the forum for discussion.

I think this thread is very useful for people who want to learn about bitcoins, it would be a shame for it to be deleted.
