localbitcoins is simple, just look for the green dot of a recent quote.
You can get some btc off me if you wanted or anyone you might know with some local or not.
The local part is mostly useful because those people dont mind sterling where as usa sellers of btc would be more fussy as you found out with mtgox
I think gox is actually based in Japan. Its the oldest and biggest and you dont need it for normal amounts
I think its just for multi million transactions, its useful to go global like that0 -
The online gaming site "zynga" is now accepting Bitcoin as payment.

Additionally, there are rumours that Netflix will follow suit.
The rising interest among more companies and adoption by major players is great news for Bitcoin and is one of the reasons for the recent 20% price rise.
2014 is shaping up to be another great year for this ground-breaking technology as more and more people are recognising its potential.0 -
I notice that zynga, Netflix etc are in the business of maximising revenue from things where the platform and content costs were sunk a long time ago, so no directly attributable material costs to cover. It makes sense for them to get the publicity that goes with it. I suspect tangible goods will lag behind.
It'll be interesting to see, though, if they do price in BTC or just convert prices back to USD. If the former it shows greater faith and may help calm the volatile speculator frenzy that dominates BTC, if the latter it's just another payment voucher.0 -

this doesn't add anything. i feel like i'm reading advertizing copy in a lot of your posts. why not just leave this bit out?0 -
There is going to have to be a decades long transitional process in all aspects of understanding, acceptance, development and widespread adoption with key milestone developments along the way.
I personally don't see things like $1K btc as a milestone in anything like the same way as Germany accepting them as legal and private money. Why leave this bit out? It is very relevant.
When talking about Bitcoin it is too easy to get distracted by talking about current exchange rates rising or falling and forget about the technological breakthrough of Bitcoin.
The technology is the important thing to grasp, because it is from the technology that bitcoins derive their value and it is the technology that is going to re-shape our world, not this or that currency (bitcoins or otherwise)0 -
Enjoy reading this thread and would like to ask one question without appearing either pro or con bitcoin.
Has anyone bought at a low value and then sold high and has the money in the bank? because reading this thread I have yet to come across anyone who has banked profits.0 -

Most people holding bitcoins believe it has long term potential so it wouldn't make sense for them to bank their profits, that said there are a lot of people who have sold and cashed out, you can check the order books of most exchanges to see just how much volume is being moved.
If your question is can you cash out: absolutely. Most people choose not to because it doesn't really make sense if Bitcoin has long term potential, but everyone absolutely can. You could have the cash in your bank account within a day if you have your coins sitting on an exchange, even less if you're using somewhere like Localbitcoins.0
