Payment problem

Options
Hi

A quick google didn't come up with any answers so -

My daughter transfers money to my wife monthly, as far as we are aware its done in a branch. This month only half the amount has arrived in my wifes account by faster payment. Our daughter is adamant that the correct amount is showing as leaving her account, and there are no previous indications that she would lie about such things.

Given that we will probably have to wait until Monday morning to phone about it, is my daughters bank (RBS) or my wifes bank (Santander) most likely to be able to help?

Thanks

This is something unusual, but normally, for missing transfers the sender has to contact their bank first.

How do you know the amount sent was only half of what it should have been? Are you looking at your available balance and find it lower than expected? Has there been another (outgoing) payment you did not allow for?

Ask her to take a screen shot of the account showing the transaction and get her to email it to you.

The obvious explanation is the most likely reason.

OP says the payment is normally made in branch, so it's unlikely daughter has internet banking?

You could, of course, be right.

It just never crosses my mind that people haven't got online banking!

They give some receipts for in-branch transfers, don't they?
    Also, there are ATM mini-statements...

Sounds like the daughter is 'remote' from the parents though(?), so fax or scan & e-mail would be the only means of proving to parents 'now' what has been sent.

A digital camera, even a mobile one is perfectly fine for this.

I think you need to find out, just how it is done.

Faster payment would inply internet/phone banking.
If done in branch, how was the payment made up? Cash & cheque?
Cash will debit quicker than a cheque.

Until you find out the above, then you have to believe her.

    Both banks have phone banking.
Although it will have to be your daughter that chases it up.

Thanks for all the replies. I know that the most probable answer is the obvious one.

Just wanted to double check that it was up to her to contact her bank first so that it is simply a case of putting the onus on her to prove it or sort it out as she sees fit.
